Main tasks include:

Paramedic

The paramedic works in a full-service Intensive Care Unit and/or Emergency room. This role assumes the responsibility for assisting with the implementation of supportive nursing care under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director. Under the direction of a health care practitioner, the Paramedic provides patient care within a defined scope of practice in accordance with the DC regulations.

  • This includes patient care/observation, specified treatments and procedures, provision of environmental and personal safety, and effective communication.
  • The Paramedic will also be responsible for collecting pertinent data within their certification scope of responsibilities and report these clinical, psychosocial, etc., findings to the RN or Critical Care provider and charts appropriately.
  • Works in collaboration with RNS and Providers, including Advanced Practitioners to provide patient care to patients using advanced skills and judgment.
  • Able to speak and write English fluently
  • Demonstrated communication, organization and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to adapt to quickly evolving situations

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • 2 years of experience as a Paramedic, with at least 6 months in a hospital setting or equivalent
  • Some advanced education preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Completion of an approved Paramedic program and current certification as a paramedic in the District of Columbia
  • Successful completion of the cognitive and psychomotor exam for the National Registry of EMTs at a Paramedic level
  • CPI within 6 months
