The Physical Security Specialist position has a selective factor requirement that must be met in order to be selected: Completion of a civilian or military police academy certificate and at least one-year experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
As an Physical Security Specialist, you may be responsible for:
  • Plans and implements physical security protective methods and procedures on systems such as, intrusion detection system and devices, safes, personnel entrv control systems and locking systems.
  • Determines and recommends the number and type of safes, alarms, and locks.
  • Sets up employee and other personnel circulation, control, and entry systems
  • Conducts facility assessments to evaluate risk.
  • Coordinates with other local and Federal law enforcement agencies and property management personnel.
  • Monitors performance and verifies compliance of a Departments guard service contracts.
  • Identifies and advises management of potential problems or by making recommendations to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).

      Qualifications

      To qualify for the position of Physical Security Specialist, (GS /12), you must meet the selective placement factor listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.

      SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
    • Completion of a civilian or military police academy certificate and at least one-year experience as a certified law enforcement officer. To Qualify for GS :

      Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as:

      1) Assisting in planning and implementing security procedures and protective methods;
      2) Performing law enforcement duties for the protection of government employees and property; and
      3) Assessing the effectiveness of existing security practices, procedures and interprets risk assessments.

      OR

      Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M, if related;

      OR

      Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and specialized experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. You must have some specialized experience as described above in number 1 but less than one year; and have more than two years, but less than three years of education as described in number 2. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

      To Qualify for GS :
