The Role:

As the Director of Engineering at Moderna, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation and engineering excellence across our Clinical Development and Operations divisions. Your leadership will be instrumental in designing, building, and sustaining a scalable, platform architecture that aligns with our company's strategic goals. You will manage complex and varied data sources and external and internal systems to catalyze medical advancements, integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance our data capabilities and operational effectiveness.

We are currently seeking a dynamic leader with in-depth experience related to public cloud architecture and engineering, specifically AWS, Azure and GCP. This individual will challenge our cloud infrastructure programs, providing expert advice on design, standards, and best practices. The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of advanced practices around automation, containerization and serverless, and polycloud implementation. The associate in this role will lead a team and a program to develop relationships and influence engineering and risk teams across the organization to provide effective oversight.

Heres What Youll Do:

Innovate and Impact: Develop and implement sophisticated data solutions to manage clinical data complexities, ensuring superior quality and access for medical breakthroughs. Your work will have a direct impact on our mission to advance medical science and improve patient outcomes. Technical Excellence: Architect and maintain comprehensive data pipelines and structures critical for drug discovery and precision medicine. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, GXP, and FDA regulations through robust data governance. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with IT teams to integrate legacy systems with modern data platforms, creating a harmonized data environment across the company. Advanced Analytics: Utilize machine learning techniques to uncover critical patterns in extensive datasets, significantly advancing drug development and patient care outcomes. Apply advanced analytics to optimize supply chain operations, enhancing healthcare delivery efficiency. Cloud Architecture Leadership: Provide expert advice on public cloud architecture and engineering, specifically AWS and GCP. Challenge cloud infrastructure programs and provide guidance on design, standards, and best practices. Lead the development and implementation of automation, containerization, serverless, and polycloud solutions. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including regulatory and compliance experts, healthcare professionals, and business leaders, to ensure data privacy and ethical management of patient information. Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor emerging talent within the data engineering domain, cultivating expertise and establishing best practices for a robust data engineering infrastructure. Lead and manage the strategic direction and operational aspects of data initiatives, ensuring alignment with company goals in data analytics and AI. Industry Representation: Represent Moderna's data strategy and AI initiatives, establishing partnerships, governing data frameworks, and showcasing the organization's forward-thinking stance in the industry. Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications) Leadership Experience: 10+ years of leadership experience in data strategy, analytics, and digital transformation within enterprise environments, with a proven track record of driving data-centric innovations. Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics, with experience in implementing these technologies to drive business outcomes. Proficiency in AWS services (Redshift, Kinesis, EMR, Lambda), SQL, Python, and data modeling techniques. Cloud Expertise: In-depth experience related to public cloud architecture and engineering, specifically AWS and GCP. Strong understanding of advanced practices around automation, containerization, serverless, and polycloud implementation. Strong Leadership Skills: Experience managing diverse teams and complex cross-functional projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. In-depth Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of data management technologies, platforms, and practices, with experience in cloud-based data ecosystems and services.
