Our Principal Product Designers are subject matter experts that lead, guide, teach, influence, and inspire. You will partner closely with senior leaders in Product and Engineering on identifying opportunities as well as creating and executing on the vision and strategy of multiple product areas. You will be responsible for design decisions that will drive business results while creating useful, scalable solutions that support the needs of our 75M monthly active consumers and real estate professionals.
To be successful in this role, you will need to confidently lead the design process with your cross-functional team throughout the full product lifecycle with a high degree of comfort. This is an opportunity to imagine new innovative products for Listing Agents, build solutions that address real customer needs, and contribute to the design system for our professional web & mobile apps. You will join a supportive team of product designers crafting tools and services for Agent and Broker customers to help grow their businesses and better support their clients throughout the buying and selling journey.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Product Design.
What you'll do:

  • Set, drive, and execute design for a product or set of products, influencing partners and stakeholders balancing customer needs and business impact
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders-including researchers, product leaders, engineers, product marketing, brand, and other designers-on complex problems
  • Partner with senior product & engineering counterparts to understand their needs and create shared objectives
  • Present and communicate design objectives, concepts and approach to partners and stakeholders across the company
  • Influence overarching product vision, proactively identifying new opportunities through ownership of your problem space
  • Create and uphold a high standard for design excellence, and challenge work that does not meet it
  • Articulate the value of Design and the rationale behind design decisions clearly, in non-designer-speak, to cross-functional leaders and executives
  • Receive design feedback with professionalism and patience, and give clear and usable design feedback to others
  • Mentor junior designers and promote continuous learning
  • Facilitate workshops, design sprints, and other collaborative sessions for your team
  • Work with other design leaders to ensure consistent adoption and understanding of design best practices and patterns across the products you lead


What you'll bring

  • 12+ years working in the design industry
  • 3+ years of working in a product-led organization
  • 3+ years of providing design direction and mentoring to junior colleagues
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Portfolio which demonstrates a strong design point of view and depth of experience, including user-centered design methodologies, product thinking, interaction flows, prototyping, high-fidelity screens, and shipped products
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on delivery, collaboration, and inclusivity
  • Experience supporting and/or conducting primary research, synthesizing data and user insights, and a strong understanding of how to leverage qualitative and quantitative data in order to make thoughtful product & design decisions
  • Mastery in visual and interaction design, with exemplary craft and attention to detail in all phases of the design process
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and inclusive design practices
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Informed and strong opinions, loosely held
