Electrical Senior Principal Engineering Technologist

At Dell, we're shaping the future of technology and making a profound social impact. As an Electrical Senior Principal Engineering Technologist on our System Architecture teams in Austin, Texas, you'll be part of a fascinating field of work that combines applied research with advanced engineering.

Our Engineering Technologist team has the expertise to develop groundbreaking products, materials, and processes. We assess the competition, develop technology and product strategies, and generate intellectual property. We lead technology investigations, analyze industry capabilities, and recommend potential acquisitions or vendor partner opportunities. Our insights influence product architecture and definitions, and we work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure our products lead the way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical architecture for mobile equipment and their hardware systems, determining and communicating design approaches and parameters.
  • Drive system architecture definition for assigned programs, ensuring consistency and compatibility with other products.
  • Oversee experimental and proof-of-concept tests, evaluating results and selecting components based on analysis of specifications, cost, continuity of supply, and reliability.
  • Review original design manufacturer and sub-tier vendor proposals and capabilities to support product development and production.
  • Ensure designs integrate with rest of product functions, including mechanical and software, creating and maintaining required documentation, and ensuring manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability of designs.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years' experience in product design.
  • Work experience and deep knowledge of X86 and/or ARM architecture.
  • Prior mobile EE architecture experience.
  • Technical experience in OS integration.
  • Strong aptitude to assess and optimize products by making proper feature tradeoffs between electrical, mechanical, power, thermal, firmware, and BIOS.
