A Brief Overview

The Purchasing Assistant responsibilities include but not limited to providing technical and administrative assistance to the purchasing department by assisting with purchasing documentation, spreadsheets, related support functions, and customer service.

What you will do
  • Run inventory and stock status reports and coordinate with inventory and purchasing supervisor to develop a procurement strategy for assigned product groups.
  • Assist operations, inventory and purchasing supervisors in preparing for upcoming inventories
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and graphs and reports such as Keystone graph, voucher audit, product code report, vendor code list, sales and inventory reports, purchase orders, etc.
  • Maintain the following inventory reports: back order report, cost/sell graphs, and average cost comparison.
  • Maintain the following inventory lists: slow moving inventory items, received special order items, and damaged or obsolete inventory items. Work with LCL Buyer and Yard Supervisor to return unused special order items
  • Create purchase orders to vendors for stock and special order products; enter purchase orders in the system and distribute copies.
  • Create and process receivers for stock, special order items, and BMW items.
  • Create basis trade invoices and verify voucher audit.
  • Maintain inventory records and files.
  • Assist buyers in researching and answering order questions, in obtaining quotes from vendors for special order items; fill in for buyer on "as needed" basis.
  • Process cash disbursements and invoices.
  • Verify credits and adjustments; issue credit invoices as necessary.
  • Complies with Company's attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.


Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Required or
  • equivalent Required and
  • 2 year Degree in Business Preferred or
  • equivalent in related work experience. Required


Experience Qualifications
  • 1 year purchasing experience Preferred and
  • previous office experience Required


Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office products including Word and Excel; professional telephone skills.
  • Knowledge of lumber, construction, building supplies preferred.
