Senior Director, Student Engagement (Central Campus)

Job Profile Summary

Under limited direction, this position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for college-wide student engagement initiatives in collaboration with college and community stakeholders, including, but not limited to Campus Student Life Offices, Student Veteran Engagement, Commencement Ceremonies, and student activities and leadership. This position plays an integral role in assisting in the fulfillment of the College's strategic plan, including increasing student retention and success.

The Senior Director, Student Engagement will maintain professional and effective working relationships with colleagues and community stakeholders to ensure consistent engagement and programming throughout the college. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • Master's degree.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Eight or more years in general business or professional related experience in student activities, student organizations, or student services including five years in management and three years in post-secondary or higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating effective marketing strategies for district programs and events.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 20%: Provides leadership and direction for programs and services that support students in their academic pursuits, campus life, and civic and social responsibilities. Responsibilities include overseeing event programming leadership development, student government, intramural sports, wellness education, student organizations, and online engagement, and ID card operations.
  • Semester Basis - 10%: Directs the college-wide production of Broward College commencement ceremonies by providing the vision, leadership, and direction across the college, including, but not limited to: Student Services, Student Life, Office of the President, Marketing, The Foundation, The Alumni Association, Facilities, and the Registrar's Office. Oversees the selection and contracting of venue, production requirements with contracted vendor, lead the development of program, communication with students, faculty, and staff, on-site supervision of event, and coordination with Broward College internal and external partners associated with graduation.
  • Daily - 10%: Develops and delivers robust student engagement opportunities for student veterans. Collaborates with internal Broward College offices such as Financial Aid, Student Life, Student Services and other departments as required to identify current student veterans to provide support and opportunities for student veterans to learn about the services and resources afforded to them based upon their veteran's status to help ensure their needs are being met both in and out of the classroom.
  • Daily - 10%: Provides oversight of the Esports program to include facilitating tournaments for the Broward College community, as well as participating in state and national tournaments; recruiting students for the formation of teams, ensuring fair and equal opportunities for student participation; and overseeing all logistics related to students participating in tournaments both on and off campus.
  • Monthly - 10%: Serves as the liaison to the President's Office and Community Partnership & Institutional Events department as it pertains to planning and implementation of presidential student engagement opportunities and participation in community and signature institutional events. Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all college-wide presidential student engagement events and will manage the allocated budget for these programs. Supervises students participating in events and responsible for all logistics related to their participation (travel, meals, etc.) as necessary.
  • Other, as Needed - 5%: Assists Vice President, Student Services in the strategic planning of short and long-range program goals and operating procedures for the department in alignment with those of the College. Conducts ongoing student engagement activities and service assessment and evaluation.
  • Daily - 10%: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff. Collaborates with faculty and other stakeholders to produce co-curricular programming that supports and augments student learning.
  • Annually - 5%: Responsible for planning, managing, and maintaining budget for department. Oversees and processes all requisitions, PCARD transactions, and Minute Traq submissions.
  • Daily - 5%: Provides effective leadership and guidance for the training of students relating to Title IX/Sexual Harassment/Assault prevention. Conforms programs and ensures adherence to federal Title IX and Violence Against Woman Act stipulations.
  • Other, as Needed - 5%: Provides reports, documentation, and related materials pertaining to Student Services, Student Life, Veterans, and student engagement initiatives. Collaborates with department in the formulation of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness goals and assessment. Reviews findings and makes recommendations for improvement to the Vice President, Student Services.
  • Daily - 5%: Represents the department at internal and external meetings, such as campus and college committees. Remains current of latest trends, practices, and student engagement opportunities.
  • Other, as Needed - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of cutting edge trends in student engagement, student code of conduct and public relations procedures, and college student development theories.
  • Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with a diverse student population and offering diverse and inclusive campus activities.
  • In-depth understanding of student success and the importance of creating an experience for students that integrates academic learning, leadership development, and co-curricular engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of College structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area.
  • Proven expertise in planning and executing operational plans, managing projects and/or programs, budgeting and cost control.
  • Strong managerial and team building skills and demonstrated ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve area priorities.
  • Ability to diagnose, plan and manage resource requirements for own area, including staffing, budgets, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to partner with others across the College and externally to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.
  • Ability to influence others of the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment.
