Job Purpose

Manage the safety programs at the Nashville Plant in a proactive fashion that ensures compliance with governmental regulations and corporate guidelines concerning health and safety, environmental and security issues. Maintain health and safety, environmental and security systems that will involve all employees in providing a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages plant safety program by developing policies, reviewing technical data and implementing new procedures to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with corporate, federal, state & local safety regulations.
  • Administers site safety initiatives such as Safety League, BBS, Safety Committee, First Responders, etc
  • Administers environmental and safety programs such as hazardous waste, pollution reduction, industrial hygiene, OSHA, fire safety & prevention, VPPPA, etc. to ensure standards, policies & procedures are current and adhered to in compliance with corporate, state, and local requirements.
  • Attends and participates in Nashville Plant Programs/Committees/Training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioral Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs
  • Is cognizant of federal, state, local, and corporate requirements. Research regulations: monitors for trends and changes and evaluates with respect to Nashville facility. Audits and assesses plant for compliance against applicable EHS regulations and corporate standards. Develops and implements plans, procedures, and policies to achieve and maintain compliance
  • Training presentations and conduct safety training when appropriate. Reviews and update training database. Conducts knowledge assessment and facilitate the delivery of safety training programs to meet site needs. Coordinates and maintains a continuing education program regarding health & safety for supervisors & employees.
  • Improves and maintains programs that emphasize employee participation and injury prevention, assuring compliance with related Company policies and regulations.
  • Coordinates and maintains health & safety audit/inspection programs which are designed to assure regulatory compliance, measure the effectiveness of existing practice, and assure correction of deficiencies.
  • Conducts routine industrial hygiene and safety evaluations, assess potential chemical & physical hazards, and develop appropriate control strategies. Participates in the IH monitoring process and generate IH monitoring reports
  • Participates in the safety review of any planned new installations or modifications to existing plant equipment, processes or product lines. Participate in MOC's and RCA's.
  • Is a health & safety technical resource for all employees to assist them in meeting their safety responsibilities. Lead and/or participate in various safety teams (on-site or corporate)
  • Collects, analyzes and distributes data on injuries, illnesses & incidents to assist in the identification of trends and strategies for prevention in the future.
  • Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state and local requirements

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required in Environmental, Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent education/experience).
  • 3-6 years HSE experience
  • Union Environment experience a plus
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels; demonstrated integrity and trust. Strong communication skills – both verbal & written
  • Strong leadership, persuasion and influence skills.
  • Strong background knowledge of operating equipment and plant processes
  • Must have good judgment in reporting errors or unusual conditions or events to Plant Management
  • Must be capable of making independent decisions and judgments based on H&S experience and knowledge
  • Strong organizational skills including document management, tracking, results follow-up
  • Ability to lead change
Rewards & Benefits

The salary range for these skills is: $95, $105, This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
