  • Support day to day operations to keep refinery safe, reliable and compliant

  • Update/maintain the site electrical system model
  • Update/maintain the site hazardous area classification using NEC and API RP 500 Create proper PM work scopes for new and existing electrical equipment. Evaluate and eliminate PM's that are not justified
  • Develop and sponsor capital and expense projects to reduce overall electrical plant risk and maintenance costs
  • Provides electrical review for existing, revamped and new equipment installations and modifications
  • Implement recommendations identified by the site Arc Flash Study
  • Maintain electrical bad actor list
  • Interface with local utility company to ensure reliability of overall electrical transmission and distribution into facility
  • Function as refinery SME to assist and support the capital projects group including but not limited to: writing specifications, developing schedules and budgets, design of additions and improvements to existing and new equipment, asset selection, materials, installation plans, testing requirements and critical spares
  • Ensure NEC, local standards and specification compliance
  • Lead What-if's, RCFA's and/or causal investigations on critical electrical equipment failures
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment
  • Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents and estimates
  • Act as a liaison between the company and county and state agencies
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of 8 years of progressive work experience in engineering discipline. Emphasis on power distribution and electrical engineering is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Registration as a Professional Engineer, Refinery or Petrochemical industry experience, FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, and hydro-treating experience.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.

Required Skills

Technical expert in area of specialty. Advanced ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes and apply knowledge analytically. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and commonly used engineering concepts and experience with electrical modeling software. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and writing skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Thorough understanding of P&ID and standard electrical drawing symbology and presentation techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Familiarity with power system modeling software (preferably ETAP). Understanding of power relay functionality, operation and programming.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require: standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
