Job Description

As a Medical Lab Scientist I, you will engage in a variety of responsibilities that are interchangeable within the roles of medical laboratory scientist, medical technologist, or clinical laboratory scientist. Your primary duties will include:

  • Assessing the acceptability of specimens for testing based on established criteria.
  • Executing both routine and complex technical procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Exhibiting the capability to make informed technical decisions regarding testing and problem resolution.
  • Preparing, testing, and evaluating new reagents or controls.
  • Delivering accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Conducting and documenting preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identifying and restocking testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Assisting with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Required Skills

Hard Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
  • 0-2 years of experience in clinical laboratory testing.
  • State Medical Technologist license (if applicable).
  • ASCP or AMT certification (if applicable).
  • Proficiency with computer systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business requirements.
