What You Will Do:

The position serves as the External Affairs Manager within the Office of Communications for the Department of Elder Affairs. The position assists in developing and maintaining an extensive public relations program for the Department. This role often requires working independently under the guidance of the Communications Director.

Serves as the External Affairs Manager for Department leadership initiatives and partnerships. Identifies and supports opportunities to build and maintain relationships with Florida's aging network, lawmakers, stakeholders, related organizations and associations, and others to promote agency programs, services, and initiatives. Represents the Department at community and statewide functions. Develops and maintains positive relationships with external partners, coordinates meetings and travel arrangements, extends invitations to partners, briefs leadership before events, represents Department at public events, coordinates external events, and more.

Creates materials to support external affairs, including talking points for Department leadership, presentations, informational binders, signage, and other items as needed.

Assists the Communications Director in gathering appropriate information for media responses.

Supports Department campaigns through the development of press releases, proclamations, communication toolkits, op-eds, newsletters, and other tactics as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Communications Director.

Travel is required. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of working experience in communications or public affairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university, in communications or related field preferred
