Antioch University Master of Arts degree in Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) provides students with the training and clinical experience necessary to become licensed as Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs). Our students develop the knowledge, skills, self-awareness, and clinical competencies as marriage and family therapists (MFTs) in alignment with professional and national standards to work with children and adults individually or as part of a relational system. Students graduate with the ability to provide ethical, skilled, socially just, and anti-racist couple and family therapy to a diverse array of clients.

Within the MA degree, students are able to specialize in one of two cutting edge fields—art therapy or dance movement therapy—and/or to obtain certifications in coveted areas such as play therapy, sex therapy, gender affirming clinical practice, sexuality education, and addiction studies. Values of ethical practice, social responsibility, anti-racism, and cultural diversity are central parts of the CFT curricula, and students receive a balance of traditional and contemporary perspectives in the MFT field.

The CFT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE), and Antioch University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Intentional, dynamic integration of theory and practice is a hallmark of an Antioch education, as is our emphasis on multicultural counseling, ethical practice, and social responsibility. Our learning experience incorporates cultural responsiveness and social responsibility, giving AU an edge over other graduate schools in psychology.
