Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Communications Associate. As a Communications Associate for WCRC, you would oversee day-to-day road work communications, including drafting road advisories, compiling weekly schedules, and updating our website and social media platforms. This role requires coordination with the Engineering and Operations departments on construction project communications, planning public meetings, and assisting with video editing.

The Communications Associate will also develop social media content, create graphics, respond to direct messages, provide front-line customer service, manage the service request system, and assist in implementing the strategic communication plan. Additionally, the role includes organizing WCRC's participation in various community events such as Paint-A-Plow and Touch-A-Truck.

Schedule

  • Winter schedule:
    Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with potential for overtime.
  • Summer schedule:
    Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with potential for overtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by an employee in this position. These examples do not include all the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Manages day-to-day road work communications including drafting and emailing road advisories, compiling weekly road work schedule, updating the WCRC webpage and social media pages.
  • Coordinates with the engineering and operations departments on construction project communications including planning public meetings, drafting letters to impacted residents, updating project web pages, hosting virtual public meetings, etc. Provides assistance with video editing for these events.
  • Collaborates with WCRC departments to develop, plan and update postings on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Linked In and X/Twitter. Creates graphics for social media using Canva. Assists with answering direct messages on all WCRC social media platforms.
  • Provides front-line customer service support for the organization including answering calls from the road commission's main line, greeting visitors to WCRC's lobby, monitoring WCRC's general email inbox, sorting incoming mail, operating two-way radio to communicate with field staff, etc.
  • Monitors WCRC's service request system daily, including entering service requests, following up with citizens as needed, assisting/training co-workers, etc.
  • Assists the communications manager to implement a strategic communication plan to advance WCRC brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs, priorities and accomplishments.
  • Attends and coordinates WCRC's participation in various community events including Paint-A-Plow, Touch-A-Truck events and parades.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations, political science, related field or its equivalent.
  • Two years of administrative support and/or communications experience.
