MedStar Health is actively seeking an ALS Paramedic who will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients with range of need from uncomplicated to complex during interfacility transport. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional care and coordinates care delivery with the physician and other members of the healthcare team.

Cannot be employed by MSH in the same role within the past two years

Payout - $8,000 Total with an 18-month commitment
$3,000 to start (paid at successful completion of orientation/probation)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Based on assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes. Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record. Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.Delivers expert paramedic care in ambulances to multiple patient types to include adult subspecialties and pediatrics.Collaborates with on line medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport.Participates in the orientation program for new staff.As part of the program's safety management system, provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives.Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program.Administers and maintains pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter hospital transports.Ensures safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Successful completion of the Department of Transportation (DOT) module EMT-Paramedic course. required
  • Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation. required

Experience

  • 1-2 years experience as a National Registry Paramedic (NRP) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to precept.
  • Demonstrated high level of clinical competence.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
