Main Purpose of Job

The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for promoting the agency in a positive manner, creating brand recognition, and educating the public about the Baltimore City Department of Social Services and its activities. The Public Affairs Officer assists the Assistant Director of Communications, Deputy Director of Internal and External Affairs, and the full communications team.\r

POSITION DUTIES

Prepare and manage a file system for all communication-related operations. Compile and manage computer and paper files containing resource information, images, mailing lists, agency historical information, and leadership biographies.\r
Help the Assistant Director and Assistant Deputy Directors track projects using the Form stack project management spreadsheet to ensure timely delivery.\r
Organize agency internal and external events. Recruit and schedule meetings with participating workers to develop, set up, and execute event specifics. This involves developing a registration procedure, a communications strategy, outcome questionnaires, and mechanisms for collecting event feedback data.\r
Develop relationships with vendors, caterers, and staff to ensure continuing support for current and future events. In charge of project management for the entire event. This includes arranging the venue, calculating the cost, providing services, and tracking invoices for cost. Pays special attention to detail, budgeting, communication, networking, sales, and negotiation. This includes studying the greatest price points and determining the best placement to attract our target demographic.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r
Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.�\r

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.\r
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
