Position Summary
The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Alabama invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Quantitative Research.


Detailed Position Information
This position is a one-year appointment. A successful candidate for Visiting Assistant Professor will have earned their Ph.D. in educational research (or in a related field with a specialization in quantitative methods), have teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s), and demonstrated potential to conduct high-quality research leading to publication. A successful candidate for Visiting Instructor will fulfill the same requirement but will have their dissertation defense scheduled prior to the end of the Fall 2024 semester.

The Department of Educational Studies houses a flourishing educational research program that offers a PhD in Educational Research and Certificates in Quantitative Research, Qualitative Research, and Measurement/Psychometrics for graduate students. A successful candidate will join 7 quantitative research faculty and a vibrant and active qualitative research community, which includes faculty and doctoral students from across the university.

The work norms for the position are structured to fit what is required of our teaching faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 4 classes in quantitative methods each semester (80% teaching allocation) with the remaining 20% of their work time devoted to service to the Department, College, and University.


Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in educational research or in a related field with a specialization in quantitative methods (i.e., 18 hours of graduate-level quantitative coursework); or ABD with scheduled dissertation defense date during the Fall of 2024 semester.

· Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative research methods and educational research design;

· Evidence of ability to conduct research leading to publication;

· Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s);

· Evidence of teaching effectiveness;

· Ability to teach introductory quantitative research courses to graduate and undergraduate students.

· Ability to work with students and faculty in a variety of disciplines;

· Excellent writing and communication skills; and

· Demonstrated commitment to valuing varieties of perspectives, communities, and identities in research and teaching.
