Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary: The University of Alabama seeks applications for Postdoctoral Fellow positions. Postdoctoral positions are available at The University of Alabama in the Mechanical Engineering Department to individuals with research interests. Individuals holding these positions are to conduct research with various faculty members on a specific project. This position will work in the engine and combustion laboratory under the direction of Dr. Ajay Agrawal.

Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the Mechanical Engineering Department. The department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field is required with specialization in combustion/thermal systems.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae and include at least two references in the reference section of the application. Skills and Knowledge: Experimental and/or computational experience in combustion and internal combustion engines (ICEs). Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following topics: knowledge of combustion and thermal-fluid instrumentation, engine control units, optical diagnostics techniques for flow and species measurements, and multi-dimensional computational fluid dynamics analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to prepare research presentations, publications, and reports.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to strengthen the research program in the engine/combustion area and help secure external research funding from various funding agencies and industries. Previous post-doctoral experience in testing and analysis of internal combustion engines. Ability to supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
