Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of the counseling center, the counselor is responsible for providing short term individual and group counseling support to FIT students who are financially challenged. This includes providing crisis care, performing risk assessment, offering general student counseling and referrals on academic, career, and situational matters. The pandemic has brought an additional increase in mental health concerns, particularly among students facing multiple stressors. The key to student success relies on a strong mental health infrastructure. As such, we must improve these resources as the need deeply impacts our underserved students. This includes students navigating economic adversity, encompassing those with a low Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), recipients of Pell and TAP grants, as well as those affiliated with our Office of Disability Services (FIT-Able). It also includes students who may not be in these categories but who have also vocalized their struggles with housing and food insecurity.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Work within a stepped care model of care to provide short term individual and group counseling support to FIT students.Respond to any urgent and critical student concerns, including the need for hospitalization.Perform risk assessments for students seeking counseling.Provide intakes for students presenting with a range of concerns including pre-existing conditions and make appropriate assessments, external referrals and follow up outreach.Provide support and follow up to administration, faculty, parents, and students.Ability to provide short term or single session psychotherapy and develop workshops and programs based on student needs and interests.Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting with complex cases.Provide case management and follow up with referred providers to ensure continuation of care.Respond to walk-in emergencies.Manage disposition planning.Develop and organize workshops and events.

Requirements:

Qualifications:
Bachelor's and master's required, Mental Health clinical license (Psychologist, LCSW, LMHC) in New York State required.At least 5 plus years clinical experiences in college counseling center or community-based settings.Case management experiencePrior experience providing outreach services.Prior work with adolescents and young adults.Knowledge of community mental health resources and facilities.Experience in conducting suicide assessment and mental status exams.Experience with a wide range of diagnosis, diagnostic assessment, and crisis intervention.Sensitivity to multicultural, underprivileged, LGBTQ +, and trauma issues.Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with college community and to present council center at campus wide events.Experience utilizing electronic medical records.Experience with substance abuse experience with trauma informed interventions.

Additional Information:

This is a grant-funded non-bargaining position with funding through June 3, 2026.

Salary

Salary: $81,000 per year

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
