Position Overview:

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a long-established multi-service

nonprofit organization rooted in the settlement house model, dedicated to enhancing

the lives of Bronx residents from early childhood through adulthood. We aim to

promote educational advancement and overall well-being within our vibrant community.

KHCC serves over 5,000 families each year, providing an inclusive environment for

children with special needs, low-income households, recent immigrants, survivors of

abuse, and at-risk youth.

Our College and Career Counselors (at JFK and Walton Educational Campuses)

play a crucial role in guiding high school students as they develop thorough

postsecondary plans. This is achieved through personalized advising, family

engagement, workshops, college and career-related excursions, and career panels.

Each counselor is assigned a specific caseload of students, but the College Directions

team is responsible for engaging all high school students, particularly juniors and

seniors.

Key Responsibilities:

● Facilitate all components of college and career programming at KHCC's Student

Success Centers (JFK or Walton campus), which includes outreach, recruitment,

intake, registration, administrative tracking, and supervision of daily visitors and

events.

● Provide tailored college and career advising for a significant caseload of students

(focusing on high school juniors and seniors), covering financial aid options, college

selection, application processes, and enrollment.

● Engage students interested in vocational training and alternative post-secondary

pathways.

● Organize and execute college and career workshops and events tailored to

different grade levels and planning stages, such as underclassmen versus juniors

and seniors, as well as middle and high school youth.

● Foster effective and collaborative relationships with the schools supported by the

Student Success Center on each campus.

● Develop strong partnerships with community organizations, colleges, and college

counseling networks that consistently offer leadership and educational opportunities

to KHCC participants.

● Build relationships with youth through daily activities, providing appropriate behavior

management and supervision.

● Stay updated on changes and advancements in the college access landscape, including

the statewide CUNY/SUNY system, financial aid, scholarships, and special programs

for low-income students (e.g., EOP, HEOP, SEEK, etc.).

● Supervise high school and college-aged peer college counselors and bridge coaches.

● Assist in planning and implementing college-related trips and events as needed for

high school and middle school participants, based on campus and partner school

needs.

● Maintain exceptional data tracking systems for both KHCC and the DOE, preparing

data for funding reports.

Physical Requirements:

● While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to

stand, walk, sit, handle or feel, talk, hear, and occasionally smell or taste. There may

be rare instances requiring quick movement or running. The employee frequently uses

hands for various tasks and may occasionally need to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Regular lifting of up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occasional

lifting of up to 50 pounds is required. Specific vision abilities needed include close

vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
