Strategic Vision: The Center's Strategic Plan aims for a significant enhancement in reproductive rights protections globally by 2030. Our history of successful legal interventions underpins this ambitious objective, having transformed the understanding and application of reproductive rights in various legal contexts, including maternal health, abortion, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the General Counsel and existing legal team to enhance the general counsel function.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the General Counsel and other members of the legal team.
- Provide legal counsel to organizational leadership on a variety of legal and policy issues.
- Advance the goals of the Office of General Counsel, particularly concerning international operations, including:
- Formulating strategies to assess and mitigate organizational risks.
- Overseeing compliance with non-profit regulations, including political activities and lobbying.
- Managing compliance with international legal standards, updating global compliance policies, and conducting training.
- Addressing labor and employment law issues, including internal investigations and union relations.
- Reviewing donor agreements, grant agreements, and sub-grant agreements.
- Handling corporate legal matters, including drafting and negotiating contracts and managing legal inquiries globally.
- Leading initiatives related to privacy and intellectual property, including compliance with privacy regulations.
- Providing legal support to the Board and its committees on governance matters.
- Preparing for crisis response, including maintaining and training for a Crisis Response Plan.
- Supervising other legal staff, including Assistant General Counsel and support personnel.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and hold a valid license to practice law in any U.S. state or territory. Foreign-trained lawyers with an LLM from an ABA-accredited institution who meet licensing requirements are also encouraged to apply.
Experience Required:
- At least 15 years of legal practice, with experience in law firms or in-house legal roles, preferably with cross-border corporate experience.
- Understanding of not-for-profit organizations, particularly international NGOs, with familiarity in legal compliance.
- Experience in global legal operations, with an understanding of compliance issues in both developed and emerging markets.
- Proven management skills, with experience in leading and mentoring legal teams.
