Summary

This is a Term Limited posistion

In collaboration with senior faculty and personnel, participate as skilled individual contributor and/or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as expert in specialized area. Responsible for administrative, financial, personnel and planning aspects of project. Design models or other vehicles for data gathering and analysis. Investigate, modify and apply new procedures, techniques or applications of technology, integrating new findings in field to study. Conduct research in area of expertise, with results used in broader research project. Has oversight for development of data collection instruments. Monitor integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures; conduct data analysis. Participate in writing research proposals, reports for funding agencies and articles for publication. Present results of study at professional meetings and other forums. Has oversight for researchers and staff engaged in day-to-day operations. Collaborate with other researchers on long-range plans for project/program, acting as expert in specialized area.

Under minimal supervision, help build next-generation tools using healthcare best practices to improve patient health and equity, and provide support for the analysis, design, and implementation of software solutions to meet investigator requirements. Collect and analyze system specifications for new project development and provide realistic timelines, cost, and potential alternatives.

Responsibilities*

The person hired for this position will be expected to:
  • Assist Co-PIs and Co-directors with building reporting, evaluation, and analysis framework, including e-forms, website connectivity, executive summaries, and presentation slides
  • Create programming, systems analysis, and documentation standards; updates procedures, forms and policies as needed
  • Develop a system of and maintain a repository of tools, publications, and other solutions created by MEL-STaR affiliated scholars and collaborators
  • Conduct research and contribute to publications along with PIs commensurate with education and experience level
Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
  • Master's degree in learning health science, computer science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of experience working in a business or large healthcare environment or the equivalent of education and experience
  • Proficiency in R, Python, Linux, and Unix environments
  • Familiarity with ML concepts (machine learning, statistics, deep learning)
  • Experience working with protected health information
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Willingness to learn and quickly adjust to new tools and systems
  • Capable of converting ambiguous problem statements into concrete project requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and activities; setting priorities and maintaining deadlines, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate respect, trust, and integrity in all operational and interpersonal transactions.
Desired Qualifications*
  • PhD-level education in learning health science, computer science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with large language models and/or federated networks
Additional Information

This is a 2-year term-limited appointment with the possibility of extension. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
