The major duties of the Social Science Technician position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides initial review of actions submitted to the National Register of Historic Places (National Register), evaluating registration forms and other requests for actions (e.g., appeals, petitions, determinations of eligibility) for technical accuracy and sufficiency.

Enters data into the National Register Information System (NRIS) in an accurate and timely manner.
Prepares announcements of National Register actions, such as Federal Register notices and lists of National Register actions. Coordinates with National Register staff, and DOI and NPS offices, to ensure accurate and timely publication and issuance.

Assists with the evaluation of properties nominated for listing in the National Register, making recommendations to senior staff to accept, reject, or return nominations meeting all substantive and technical requirements.

Assists senior staff in conducting research and synthesizing information from a variety of sources, and in developing reports and other analytical documents, regarding National Register issues.

Assists senior staff in supporting collateral preservation assistance programs through National Historic Landmark data managments, grant application reviews, and historic tax credit reviews.
