Job Title: Social Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Social Scientist to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a Social Scientist, you will play a critical role in developing policy, processes, training, guidance, tools, and software applications to apply social science theory and methods in the context of Human Research Protection programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct social science research projects involving survey questionnaire design, quantitative data analysis, and designing sampling methods to collect data from or about human subjects.
  • Apply social science theory and methods in the context of Human Research Protection programs to meet the requirements of the Common Rule.
  • Manage peer review processes and create and deliver presentations to scientific and technical audiences.
  • Work with the Office of Science Quality and Integrity to advance the health of the USGS science strategy by ensuring that the quality and integrity of our science is monitored.
Requirements:
  • A degree in behavioral or social science, or a related discipline, or a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  • One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
