The Director of Production provides operational oversight and leadership of the instructional technologists within the Instructional Design and Development unit at Excelsior University. In addition, the Director will work closely with the Director of Creative Learning and Media Services, Director of Program Management, LMS Administrator, and the Executive Director of Instructional Design and Development, to ensure departmental and vendor resources and personnel provide effective and appropriate program and course design support services to the Colleges.

This position is based out of the university's home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., Laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic partner and active leader on the IDD team working in collaboration with faculty and staff. Oversee production of course content in the LMS.Collaborate with content designers and the LMS team to identify and implement technical solutions.Own the online learning path design and LMS development guidelines and best practices. Plan, forecast, and manage Production resource needs. Manage the planning and execution of repairs to live courses. Manage system and process for collecting and resolving issues with live courses. Support the IDD team's implementation and management of its processes, documentation, and systems. In collaboration with other team members, ensure projects are meeting quality standards and deadlines. In collaboration with the Executive Director of Instructional Design and Development, Director of Creative Learning and Media Services, Director of Program Management, and the LMS Administrator determine the unit's goals and strategies to create state-of- the-art online programs and other learning pathways for students at a national and international level. With an eye on continuous improvement, determine key points and methods to evaluate and receive feedback on the course development process. Ensure the instructional technologists have an ongoing professional development plan to stay abreast of learning and teaching best practices. Remain current with the latest industry technology tools and trends. Perform other duties as assigned or required.

  • BA in education technology or related field or equivalent level of experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience in project management and process related to online course development.
  • Preferred - MA in education technology or related field and minimum of 5 years of instructional design experience or equivalent level of education and experience.
  • Experience working in Canvas.
  • Familiarity with technological systems as they apply to instructional, administrative, and workplace needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders who represent a variety of values and priorities.
  • Supervisory skills to manage a team including the hiring of new employees, transfers, promotions, salary actions, terminations, and evaluation of performance.
  • Experience using a standards-based approach to course quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or project management skills that lead to desired outcomes within an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an instructional technology team.
  • Experience managing multiple, complex projects concurrently.
  • Relevant experience in higher education, including online course development and outcomes assessment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience performing needs assessments within processes and teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively manage projects that involve diverse individuals who may be local or at a distance.
  • Technical skills appropriate for a production position (e.g., learning management systems, designing for web, authoring tools, basic HTML, Microsoft Office) and willingness to continually learn new applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to continually adapt and learn new procedures and software programs.
  • Desire to continue learning and developing skills.
