Position Details:
The Davies School of Communication Sciences and Disorders invites applications from innovative professionals with expertise in the field of deaf and hard of hearing studies and deaf education. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies program at TCU aims to equip graduates for a career in working with individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing by encouraging critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and inter-professional collaborations. We are seeking a proactive leader with programmatic leadership experience and a vision for advancing the training of future professionals in this field. With program growth, opportunities exist for appointment as a program coordinator.

The position is a full-time 9-month position eligible for the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor of Professional Practice (depending on terminal degree) who will report directly to the Director of the Davies School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The Davies School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is an academic unit within the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies or Deaf Education

Expertise in working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing

Experience with academic and/or clinical teaching and supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

At least a Master's Degree

Experience with program development and/or program management

Experience in university level teaching and supervision

Responsibilities:

Reports directly to the Director of the Davies School of COSD.

Acts as liaison between department and TCU College of Education regarding issues affecting the undergraduate DHHS program.

Provides academic advising to undergraduate DHHS majors and minors.

Orients DHHS majors and minors to curriculum and degree requirements. Meets with students, individually and/or in groups, to discuss progress on a regular basis.

Works with the departmental faculty in identifying students in the program who are not performing well academically and should be discussed in student staffing during faculty meetings.

Conducts regular program assessments to monitor student outcomes and ensure adherence to state certification requirements.

Ensures students are meeting academic requirements for TEA certification (e.g., at end of semester, meet with students to make sure they have met their academic goals and/or establish a plan of action regarding their individualized needs).

Coordinates scheduling of tours for students interested in DHHS program.

Represent the DHHS program as applicable on department committees and at the state level.

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching and using modes of communication that are in alignment with the needs of individuals who have hearing loss and are receiving services in our clinic and the surrounding community.

Department Details:
The Davies School of Communication Sciences and Disorders has been educating students and providing services to the greater Fort Worth community for over 70 years. As an academic unit of the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Davies School educates undergraduate and graduate students on the best practices for serving individuals with a variety of communication difficulties. Housed in the Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic, the department offers speech-language therapy, literacy, aural habilitation, and audiological services. Onsite audiological services include hearing screenings, diagnostic evaluations, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, and cochlear implant mapping for children and adults. The Davies School of COSD has a long-standing history of emphasizing multicultural and cross-cultural instruction and research.
