Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking an experienced Data Scientist specializing in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to join our innovative team. In this role, you'll apply cutting-edge machine learning techniques to solve complex business problems and deliver customer-focused solutions at scale.

Our Data and Technology Group (DTG) is a diverse, project-oriented team delivering technology solutions to our Defense, Homeland, Law Enforcement, and Civilian agency clients. DTG is QinetiQs' homebase for developers, data scientists, network engineers, system administrators, and other technologists, creating a dynamic, cross-project technical community that prioritizes continual learning, collaboration, and easy opportunities for project variety over time.

DTG also ensures that our focus on delivering for current customers is balanced with initiatives that will help drive future growth - both in terms of new customers and new technologies and solutions. Ambitious technologists will have a wide range of opportunities to stretch their tech skills as we create novel demonstrations and pilot capabilities to help clients as they consider how to modernize and maximize their technology, processes, operations, and mission impact.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct statistical analyses on business processes using ML techniques to deliver customer-focused solutions
  • Own and define the direction of mission-critical solutions by applying best-fit ML algorithms and technologies
  • Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, software engineers, solutions architects, and product owners to deliver world-class solutions to real-world problems
  • Process data and information at a massive scale, developing pipelines that optimize infrastructure use
  • Use consulting skills and technical expertise to guide clients in navigating ML algorithms, tools, and frameworks
  • Design, build, and deliver ML models and components that solve real-world business problems
  • Inform ML infrastructure decisions using your understanding of ML modeling techniques and issues (model choice, data and feature selection, training, hyperparameter tuning, dimensionality, bias/variance, and validation)
  • Write and test application code, develop and validate ML models, and automate tests and deployment
  • Work as part of a cross-functional Agile team to create and enhance software for big data and ML applications
  • Retrain, maintain, and monitor models in production
  • Leverage or build cloud-based architectures, technologies, and platforms to deliver optimized ML models at scale
  • Construct optimized data pipelines to feed ML models
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment best practices
  • Ensure code is well-managed to reduce vulnerabilities, models are well-governed from a risk perspective, and ML follows best practices in Responsible and Explainable AI
  • Utilize programming languages like Python, Scala, or R

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or STEM-related specialty
  • 3+ years of experience with artificial intelligence, data science, ML engineering, data research, software engineering, or data analytics
  • 5+ years of experience with modern Cloud computing technologies: AWS and Microsoft Azure
  • Demonstrated experience with Generative AI
  • Demonstrated experience tuning neural networks, such as LLMs, on custom data sets and applying results to specific use cases
  • Proficiency with SQL, including common table expressions, set operations, aggregated functions, and nested subqueries
  • Experience with version control systems such as Github and Jenkins
  • Proficiency in Python, R, and Scala
  • Experience developing models and ensembles in the AI/ML space, including selecting appropriate Python libraries, pre-processing actions, performing analysis, and assessing model performance
  • Experience in building feature repositories for training AI-ML models
  • Project work in deep learning, computer vision, NLP, or chatbot development
  • Knowledge of modern software design patterns, including microservice design or edge computing
  • Experience with frameworks including Huggingface, LangChain, AutoGPT, or AgentGPT
  • Experience with GPU programming
  • Ability to gather requirements from customers and lead Agile teams

  • Experience with cloud AI ML capabilities like AWS, Databricks
