Role Overview
As a Manager, Proposal Development you will contribute to Sirva's success by developing compelling language and bid responses by fully understanding and translating requirements, sales strategy, and solutions into engaging, customer-ready documents. This role is responsible for writing, editing, and project-managing customized proposals and responses to complex RF(x) (i.e., RFP [Request for Proposal] and RFI [Request for Information]) questionnaires for Sirva corporate business units (e.g., Americas, EMEA, APAC) to help the company win new and retain/expand existing business. This role's contributions directly impact our bid quality and win rate. As a Manager, Proposal Development, you will work with a number of stakeholders across disciplines to support opportunities throughout key stages while partnering with the Client Development and Client Services account owners. This will include developing compelling language, communication of strategies, and proposals from early conception to production and delivery. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in proposal writing, bid management and communications in a B2B / professional services environment. A demonstrable ability to lead, meet tight deadlines, project manage the end-to-end proposal process, and work as part of a team or independently are crucial to the role.
What You'll Be Doing
- Play an active part in the business development process, including ensuring opportunity strategy is being driven cohesively through the bid response; guide the bid team (e.g., Client Development or Client Services, pricing, and internal subject matter experts [SMEs]) in developing proposal win themes and ensure they are reflected throughout the proposal
- Review and disseminate assigned bid project documentation to bid team
- Project manage the end-to-end proposal process to ensure all bid expectations, deliverables, requirements, and timelines are understood and met by the bid team, including internal timelines and draft deadlines that you establish
- Apply learned knowledge of Sirva products/services and competitive differentiation, becoming a wing-to-wing SME who is knowledgeable of all SIRVA BGRS global capabilities
- Act as a steward for the relaying of Sirva capabilities and offerings
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate technical capabilities and strategic messaging into compelling bid responses, translating technical capabilities and strategic messaging into an overall response that is tailored to the opportunity's scope and Sirva's overall value proposition
- Copywrite, edit and format bid responses to ensure they are accurate, well-written, and persuasive; configure proposal library boilerplate text to produce responses that are customized to the specific to bid questions and scope, ensuring all requirements are fulfilled and the SIRVA BGRS differentiation is represented with Sirva story woven throughout
- Promote company-wide understanding and adherence to the bid process (e.g., maintaining the the team's established approach to project manage bid responses and interaction in proposal software)
- Coordinate proofing of all bid response text
- Package the bid response and all supporting documentation according to Sirva styles and bid specification/instructions
- Submit bid response (e.g., packaging files for email submission, uploading and assembling within bid sites, overseeing final production and shipping of proposals for hard-copy delivery)
- Continuously improve the proposal process through best practices
- Ensure newly created content is updated in Qvidian knowledge base (i.e., proposal library); file and archive completed proposals promptly and correctly to ensure that the team of Proposal Managers have access to current information
- Supervise one or more team functions (e.g., maintenance of in-house style guide, maintenance of language library categories)
- Assist in content creation and writing of other broader Marketing team collateral and communications, as needed
What You Bring to Sirva
- Bachelor's degree required; writing-focused degrees (English, English lit, writing/journalism) preferred
- 5 years of writing experience (proposal writing, editing, procurement, grant writing, or journalism preferred); experience in the relocation industry is a plus
- Fluency in English
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader
- Experience with Visio preferred
- Previous experience with Qvidian or other proposal management software preferred
- Demonstrable writing, editing, organizational, and communication skills required
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and managing across multiple, overlapping deadlines and projects
- Experience in copy writing or creative writing styles (e.g., brochures, website content) preferred
- Continuous-learning mindset and ability to adapt and remain agile in a digitally enabled environment, including adoption of new software and processes as best practices evolve
- Self-motivated and accountable for proactive time management
- Ability to work with senior-level management while maintaining ownership and accountability for the project; comfortable advocating for proposal processes with contacts from varying business functions and management levels
