Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Director of Freighter, Ground Operations to maintain the customer relationship with Freighters while assuring that third-party suppliers are hiring, assigning significant duties, directing the work and taking corrective action when needed to assure the success of Sun County standards as defined by the established SLA's for Freighters.

Director of Freighter, Ground Operations Overview:

The Director of Freighter, Ground Operations will be responsible to maintain the customer relationship with Freighters while assuring that third-party suppliers are hiring, assigning significant duties, directing the work and taking corrective action when needed to assure the success of Sun County standards as defined by the established SLA's for Freighters.

Essential roles and responsibilities of a Director of Freighter, Ground Operations:

  • Own the Freighter operational ground performance and strategically influence the other departments to set up processes for improved operations.
  • Maintain the customer relationship with Freighters and proactively anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Manage the service agreements with the handlers by meeting in person on a scheduled basis and establishing and overseeing a mutually agreed upon action plan when performance is below desired standards.
  • Provide a constant review of fiscal responsibility and seek out opportunities to reduce costs, where possible.
  • Develop and implement a quarterly review in partnership with Sr Director of Ops performance, on Freighter performance metrics.
  • Meet the budgetary plan for the Freighter product.
  • Ensure all Sun Country Airlines Ground Operations employees and vendors are trained and maintain appropriate records to meet and exceed SY safety standards.
  • Ensure Sun Country controllable Ground Operations functions are conducted flawlessly to ensure zero Sun Country controllable Ground Ops delay for daily flights.
  • Develop operational checklists to ensure we capture all the requirements in planning the transitions.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of the annual budget, financial forecasts and other business goals, and lead third party management to ensure budget goals are achieved, including the budgetary plan for Freighters.
  • Conduct all tasks in a safe and efficient manner complying with all local, state, and federal safety and health regulatory requirements, programmatic standards, and with any internal policies and procedures identified by Sun Country Airlines. Enhance Safety Promotion by acting as an ambassador of the SMS.
  • Have a complete and thorough knowledge of the appropriate station contracts, and work closely with Airport Handlers to implement service agreement performance metrics (SLA's) as outlined.
  • Investigate any safety concerns including following up on audits for all stations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for SABLE in the Sun Country operation, assisting with testing during version updates or configuration changes.
  • Utilize data to provide action plans and solutions within the operation.
  • Evaluate operations and seek opportunities to continuously improve service including safety initiatives, on time operational performance, baggage, IROP management and recovery plans and other strategic initiatives set forth by Sun Country.

The qualifications we are looking for in a Director of Freighter, Ground Operations include:

  • College degree (business, operations, etc.) or equivalent business experience required. Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in airport management, airport operations, or aviation/airline operations. Thorough knowledge of aircraft operations (ramp operations, baggage handling, passenger service, IROP management and aircraft performance) highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability using a variety of tools ranging from Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Sun Country SABRE system, WorldTracer etc.
  • Should be a demonstrated self-starter who is action oriented and proven capable to manage complex day-to-day operations, as well as communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
  • Should be highly motivated and very customer service oriented (both internal and external customers)
