This position is located on the Peoria campus 170 miles southwest of Chicago. (On-Site Work – Not Remote).

Description:
Works with the nursing team to complete medical referrals as ordered by the provider. Ensures required documentation is available. Corresponds with insurance in submitting and obtaining authorization for medications as prescribed by provider and required by patient insurance. Documents in patient EMR. Responds to patients' questions regarding insurance and referrals within scope. Performs reception/call center duties, including scheduling patient appointments and screening for COVID 19 risks/symptoms by utilizing the appropriate screening tool. Assists with temperature checks as patients enter clinic, and notify nursing staff of any irregularities. Receives phone calls and retrieves voicemail messages and medical questions/requests to PHS nursing pool via Epic messaging. Makes patient appointment reminder calls and calls to reschedule patients who do not attend appointments. Responds to registration/scheduling questions from patients and their families. Collects patient co-payments at the time of service and gives payments to Business Manager to close daily receipt records. Closes out credit card system daily. Assists with arranging transport for patients when needed. Coordinates interpreter services with patient schedules. Ensures that reception area equipment is functional, including printer and credit card machine, and reports malfunctions to supervisor. Requests clerical supplies as needed. Advises supervisor and director of concerns and provides input into process changes needed in reception area. Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned. Performs duties at lower levels of this series.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months), from the categories below: Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Assistant level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.Work experience in a health care facility such as a doctor's, dentist's, or hospital's office; which involved record keeping, working with the public, direct patient contact, answering telephones, and working with medical terminology.Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial or paramedical program, such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary.
