Summary

The Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing youth programs within the CMPD's Community Services Bureau.

This position will oversee programs such as Reach and Envision and will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, administration, data tracking, record keeping, and budgeting of these programs.

This position will report to the Community Engagement Sergeant and work closely with the Youth Diversion team.

Hours:
Monday-Friday (8AM-5PM) with flexibility on adjusting hours and the weekends required based on program hours and operational needs. Hours will be adjusted based on the needs of the community and events requested.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct administrative tasks while managing all youth programs schedules, contracts, budgets and purchase orders within Community Services bureau.
  • Oversee data tracking to measure and report program outcomes aligned with department goals.
  • Build and keep relationships with organizations like the Department of Juvenile Justice, District Attorney's Office, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Race for Matters Juvenile Justice, School-Justice Partnership, Communities in Schools, and other law enforcement agencies and school leaders nearby.
  • Collaborate with CMPD's 13 Patrol Divisions in the Investigations, Research and Planning, Crime Analysis, and Finance departments, to improve CMPD Youth Programs.
  • Manage the creation and execution of Youth Programs, while updating the youth resource guide with new community resources and programs.
  • Seek out and identify appropriate training needed for new personnel and development.
  • Coordinate among youth program vendor(s) responsible for administering services to youth.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing communication and relationships with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), CMS Police Department and school staff.
  • Assist with research projects and prepare reports for program enhancements to address emerging trends, knowledge gaps and reoccurring community issues.
  • Oversee and monitor the performance of violence interruption implementation sites and the SAFE Charlotte grant programs.
  • Observe facilitators and assess their performance and effectiveness.
  • Assist and participate when needed with Reach, Reach Out, Youth Diversion, Envision and Envision summer camps.
  • Conduct tours of colleges, and coordinate youth fun activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skills in project management, report preparation, time management, computer proficiency.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to carry out assignments independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written communication.
  • Ability to analyze administrative problems and propose solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and officers to provide prevention resources and educational sessions for youth and adults.

Physical Requirements:

  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for talking, sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time.
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing and pulling when performing tasks.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.

Sensory Requirements:

  • Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data.
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.
  • Comprehension of written information in work related documents.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims, etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files, and phone. Occasionally work outdoors in conduction with programming.
  • Work schedule will be aligned to meet the division's business needs in accordance with all CMPD policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Equivalent to an associate degree in business administration, public administration, marketing or a field related to the assigned program area. Completion of a bachelor's degree is desirable.
  • Three years of experience in the development and coordination of programs, activities, and events for youth program or nonprofits entities.
