This position support the Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division's (MSMD) storm drainage rehabilitation and maintenance programs.

Responsibilities include:Performs a variety of duties in support of the Stormwater Conveyance Branch of the Maintenance and Stormwater Management Division.Supports the operation of the storm conveyance system condition assessment survey program by conducting inspections, collecting field data, and reporting defects both from walking surveys and on a mobile platform (CCTV).Recommends maintenance and/or rehabilitation action for both the open and closed storm drainage conveyance systems.Conducts research and field inspections, evaluating system functionality per agency inspection procedures and program service levels.Reconciles inventory documents with actual field data for updating into GIS and agency databases.Interprets program policies and established service levels to identify corrective action, determine the scope of work, prepare work orders, follow maintenance criteria to repair or replace deficiencies in the storm conveyance systems.Estimates the quantity of work, necessary materials, manpower and equipment needed to perform tasks. Ensures land rights are in place for access and accomplishment of identified work.Draws sketches of work areas to accompany work orders.Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; and one year of engineering technical support work experience or one year of post-secondary vocational trade school or completion of one year of an applied science associate's degree.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:A valid driver's license.VDOT Basic Work Zone Traffic Control Certification within 18 months of hire.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Basic engineering knowledge and/or construction experiences such as plan reading, drafting, design and scientific knowledge as it relates to stormwater.Experience using a personal computer, GIS based programs, and Microsoft Office software.Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information orally or in writing to members of the public and other professional staff.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and the general public.Ability to work independently and strong organizational and time management skills, including ability to coordinate multiple projects, prioritize, and meet established deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to conduct field inspections. Ability to operate a motor vehicle to drive to/from job sites, off-site meetings, training and/or conferences. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to push, pull, stoop, walk, climb, bend, lift and carry objects weighing up to 110 lbs. with assistance and ability to walk/traverse rough, icy, broken terrain, go up and down steep hills, slopes and steps at a sustained rate. Physically and mentally able to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment; including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, long pants, sleeved shirt, emergency retrieval systems and atmospheric monitoring systems. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
