Research Scientist - Genitourinary Medical Oncology

Summary


The intended function of the Research Scientist position is to work in a multidisciplinary research genitourinary (GU) medical oncology team, focused on scientific projects involving pathologic image analysis for cancer immunoprofiling studies.

The Research Scientist will perform quality assessment of tissue samples from different clinical trials, develop scientific projects, data management, data analysis and interpretation, as well as scientific communication of the findings with key collaborators.

Expertise in histopathology and digital pathology also critical for this position.

Key Functions

Develop and perform scientific research projects for GU cancers and other cancer types, cancer immunoprofiling and digital pathology.

Provide technical expertise in immunoprofiling studies and digital pathology image analysis.

Helping with scientific approach when bridging the gap from human to mouse models.


Histopathologic review of fresh frozen and FFPE tumor and normal samples from different types of solid tumors, and participation as a research pathologist with our GU medical oncology department for the optimal collection and processing of human and animal biospecimens.

Reviewing slides and images for novel and interesting comparisons and identifying potential areas for further development


Create scientific content for digital pathology for immunoprofiling analysis protocols involving human and mouse tissue specimens, and respond to contingencies, revisions, etc.

Assist the PIs in data analysis, preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.

Data analysis and reports for GU medical oncology department, creating a system to manage data and reporting


Plan and supervise the training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment and safety procedures.


Build and lead a team with pathology research expertise that will respond to emerging objectives of GU medical oncology department in particular, and those of key collaborators.

Participate in group meetings and coordinate pathology work with disease site committee pathologists.

Compiles, writes and submits reports to PIs to be submitted to various requestors.

Serve as immunology liaison to key collaborators and other disease site committees.

Other duties as assigned.

Education Required - Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience Required - Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.


Experience Preferred - strong molecular pathology experience and an interest in leveraging and applying informatics / artificial intelligence tools for the integration, management, and sharing of molecular pathology data.
