Position Overview:
The Deputy Chief Scientist for the Human Research Program (HRP) plays a pivotal role within the HRP senior management team. This individual is tasked with supporting the Chief Scientist in shaping scientific policies and proposing innovative research and technology investment strategies to effectively meet program goals.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the manager of the Science Integration Office, the Deputy Chief Scientist is responsible for facilitating the transition of HRP products to relevant missions.
Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess the Basic Education Requirement outlined in the Education section below, along with one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade. This experience should demonstrate the necessary competencies to successfully fulfill the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-15, candidates must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, which includes:
- Overseeing research that evaluates human physiological responses to spaceflight or the environmental risks of spaceflight on human health and performance.
- Leading teams or managing diverse portfolios in space biomedical research.
Additionally, candidates should have experience working with human research requirements in two or more of the following areas:
- Writing research proposals.
- Negotiating collaborations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Developing research requirements.
- Evaluating research proposals through peer review processes, Institutional Review Boards, or informed consent processes.
