Job Summary:
The Chief of Staff is a high-visibility, strategic partner that supports General Manager and senior leadership team by managing the team's priorities, overseeing staff/internal operations, and leading/project managing key initiatives. This role supports the General Manager with thought partnership and driving critical processes and projects to accomplish business goals. This role will be defining processes and tools to drive standardization and alignment, ensure the successful delivery of programs/projects, and facilitate resource management across the organization, including R&D and Commercial. The Chief of Staff helps develop the organizational and communication framework for staff, stakeholders, and leadership team members to implement the commercial vision and ensure the growth and success of the organization.
This role will lead the execution and delivery of all projects, managing day-to-day activities, risks, dependencies, budgets, resources, and timelines in order to hit all program goals on time, within scope, and with required quality.
Essential Functions Of The Job
Cross Functional Coordination

  • Form a close partnership with department leads and with program management to build program plans, identify risks, manage budgets, and timelines and ensure best practices.
  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans
  • Develop and align on governance processes across HQ/US and within the US to facilitate decision making, discussion of scenarios/ trade-offs and gain alignment
  • Lead key program team meetings and serve as a point of escalation for the program to executive leadership
  • Anticipate, identify and then facilitate resolution of issues between departments and across functional lines pertaining to projects, strategic priorities and team dynamics

Strategic Initiatives

  • Accountable for timely, cost effective and high-quality execution of governance approved strategies
  • Support the development of the long-term strategy and the identification of new Business Development opportunities
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with key global and external stakeholders

Chief of Staff

  • Partner with management team to create an integrated corporate annual calendar incorporating external goals and internal process goal to highlight risks/competing priorities.
  • Work with the leadership team and delegates to design and execute cultural initiatives and events to bring colleagues together, share priorities and updates, build common knowledge and celebrate successes
  • Manages and forecasts an integrated project budget and resource plan, including investment buy-ups/buy-downs, in partnership with the development, manufacturing, operations, commercialization and Finance team member
  • Aligns assumptions in the forecast, ensures transparency and understanding of the approved plan, funding status of activities, and identifies potential efficiencies with the team

Required Education/Experience and Skills

  • Degree in science, business, engineering, or a related field and at least 10 years' experience in biotech, pharmaceuticals or a related field preferred. Significant experience in Commercial operations and program management a must.
  • Experience with leading strategic initiatives in the pharmaceutical, biotech or related industry required.
  • Understands the rare disease business and brings learnings from this environment
  • Experience in more than one functional area, i.e. clinical and regulatory affairs, commercial, Supply Chain, Operations, Manufacturing... to assure broad understanding of the pharmaceutical development
  • Broad understanding of strategic business objectives
  • Excellent understanding of project management
  • In-depth knowledge of all phases of drug development, of the functions and processes relevant to drug development, and project management principles applicable to the biopharmaceutical environment
  • Experience with planning and execution of strategies for drug product registration and commercialization/life cycle management
  • Willingness to both manage projects and execute tasks in accordance with business needs.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, team development and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information using excellent discretion and judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, communicate, and gain support for execution plans with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Result oriented individual to execute strategy and meet corporate objectives
  • Able to motivate and develop individual team members and overall team performance
  • Is resilient and embraces a fast-paced innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient
