At Bel, the vision for the Strategic Insights department (SI) is to become a competitive advantage for the company, ​running a Best-in-class Insights & Foresights factory, powered by big & smart data analytics.

The Strategic Insights Sr Director NORAM belongs to the global SI team, with a direct reporting line to the Global Director of SI located in Suresnes, France and leads a team of 4 managers (Chicago and NYC based)- 2 ad hoc researchers and 2 business analysts.

MAIN MISSIONS

Within the Strategic Insights department (around 25 people in the world), and as part of the SI Market Champions team, you will lead research and data analysis to further understand consumers & shoppers, Bel brands, categories (Snacking/healthy snacking, cheese and fruit pouches) and competitors, and to influence the development and implementation of relevant brand, innovation and category strategies in the local BUs. You will also contribute to transversal projects (Brand agnostic Multi brands and/or Multi countries).

You will act as a business partner for Bel Brands USA & Bel Canada Marketing and Sales teams, and lead all strategic insights work to drive growth in those business units.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  1. Build and lead the relevant learning agenda & roadmap to address local key business priorities
  • Leverage trends, data, consumer & shopper insights, and other relevant resources, such as macroeconomics, to inform local strategies, accelerate business growth and identify new business opportunities
  • Identify learning gaps and turn them into learning roadmap with clear objectives
  • Manage local SI budget with a ROI and business impact mindset
  • Leverage agency partnerships (data and ad hoc) to maximize added value
  • Recommend potential new vendors and methodologies to address key business issues in the most efficient and impactful way
  • Specifically contribute to opportunity detection on healthy snacking, cheese & fruit pouches
  1. Drive and expand data & analytics culture and usage

With the support of the Business Analytics Manager

  • Drive business and brand performance analysis and processes.
  • Develop and manage analytic reporting tools on both ongoing and ad-hoc basis in partnership with Global Business Analytics lead.
  • Leverage various data sources (POS data, HH purchase dynamics, consumption trends, shipment etc.) to explain drivers of business performance and inform both tactical and strategic business decisions with actionable recommendations.
  • Translate data into clear, persuasive reports and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Support Marketing, Sales, Finance and Supply Chain teams in category and retail ad hoc analysis to understand underlying trends and impact to brand/retailer volume performance.
  • Upskill & Train the local teams leveraging analysis templates and tools developed by the SI Business Analytics group (RGM, Sales uplift, etc.)
  • Lead pricing/promotion analytics. Ensure on-going integration of results with Sales and Marketing to enable fact based decisions on pricing strategy and potential pricing actions.
  • Lead shopper analytics/retailer data studies (such as Market Structure, Store Matching Analysis, Media Market Testing, PPA) and other panel or scan-based custom studies.
  • Drive media effectiveness and efficiency for all brands. Provide guidance on opportunities to optimize or improve marketing effectiveness and efficiency by leveraging Growth Drivers Models. Recommend appropriate tools to measure marketing campaigns effectiveness and ROI (i.e. marketing mix, attribution models, etc.) according to level of investment, stakes and Bel Group requirements
  • Specifically : build a relevant snacking/healthy snacking category monitoring and expertise
  1. Lead local ad hoc research and support global brands initiatives in North America

With the support of the Sr Manager of Ad Hocand in partnership with the SI Global Brand Champions

This may include (not exhaustive):

  • Consumer understanding projects: U&A, Segmentation, Drivers & barriers, Ethnography, Social intelligence
  • Shopper understanding projects (multi-channel): Path to purchase, Category understanding, RGM, Price & Promo analytics, Merchandizing tests
  • Brand, Communication / Media projects: BHT, Brand Audit, Media & Touch points Optimization, Pre & Post Tests
  • Innovation / Renovation projects: idea screeners, concept, product, packaging tests, post launch analysis
  • Trends and Foresights: local workshop facilitation leveraging global trends supports developed by the SI team, local insights sharing to feed global strategies, roll out of Bel knowledge management platform (Wikibel)
  1. Lead and coach local SI team
  • Inspire, Coach, challenge and support team members to thrive and deliver excellence
  • Build development plans for the team to grow their skillset in alignment with the company needs and vision for the Strategic Insights department
  1. Contribute to the Strategic Insights full team life and mission:
  • Responsible for transversal projects in the SI Community (e.g. Agile Methods Platforms) and Share business cases and best practices with other members across the globe.
  • Roll out & amplify SI global programs such as: Brand Health Tracker, Localization of global trends, Business Analytics programs etc.

PROFILE/SKILLS

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience and expertise as business analyst & consumer insights with a VERY STRONG background on business analytics, ideally in FMCG space.
  • Bachelor degree with emphasis in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Decision Science, Operation research or other quantitative field preferred
  • Experience working with data and data providers such as IRI / Circana, Nielsen, Numerator, or loyalty cards analytic programs such as 84.51 is a must.
  • Experience working in a multicultural, international environment / company is necessary
  • Experience leading small team of experts
  • BILINGUAL ENGLISH & FRENCH would be a plus

Technical skills

  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerBI. VBA is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience manipulating large, complex datasets from multiple sources (Nielsen, IRI, 84.51, Numerator etc.), coupled with solid business thinking.
  • Highly skilled in advanced analytical techniques such as clustering techniques, regression methods
  • Expertise in marketing campaigns measurement
  • Affinity for visualizing data in a way that is relevant to answering specific business questions
  • Good understanding of advanced database technologies and platforms and data lakes
