Job Summary

The candidate must have a strong knowledge of and previous coaching experience in the sport. Must provide excellence in leadership by developing and communicating a strong vision for the program and implementing that vision. This position encompasses "self-leadership" in that the coach continues to sharpen themselves while leading the team.

Must be a team player in Student Leadership and Engagement who demonstrates emotional intelligence and the ability to cooperate, work, and communicate clearly and honestly with Southwest and the cheer team. This is an in-person role only that requires evening and weekend work hours.

Job Duties

Planning and organizing all phases of the cheerleading program.
Coordinate tryouts for cheerleaders and the mascot.
Develops, communicates and maintains a regular schedule of in-season practices
Attend the Men's and Women's home basketball games.
Identify two away basketball games for cheerleaders to attend.
Oversee some spirit-related College events.
Prepare cheerleaders and mascot for city parades.
Cultivates engaging college experiences for students and campus visitors through interactions with the cheerleaders and mascot, representing the College in a manner that builds positive college brand interactions.
Maintains current uniform/accessory inventory and annually recommends purchase of such when required.
Provide current information on the cheerleader webpage.
Work closely with the Coordinator of Student Leadership and Engagement who serves as the Cheerleader Advisor.
Monitors proper supervision of student athletes at practices, games, in locker rooms, and on school provided transportation.
Provide and annually update program goals and expectations.

Minimum Qualifications
Must have previous coaching and cheering experience.

Must obtain and maintain a CPR certification.

Must be able to recruit, instruct, and motivate cheerleaders in a positive manner.

Must be well-organized with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Must have a valid state driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strategically build and maintain their sport and develop a culture that expects excellence in the student-athletes classroom, competition, and character.

Must have practical knowledge and skills in the use of various forms, such as cheer terms, flipping, stunting, and pyramid building,

Recruit mission-fit student-athletes and develop self-advocacy.

Must build a foundation for academic excellence by setting and maintaining high expectations for the team.

Must be competitive by developing summer cheer camps and participating in cheer competitions every three years.

Coordinate cheer fundraiser opportunities.

Provide cheer information to Communication and Marketing for social media posting.

Performs all other duties assigned by the Cheerleader Advisor.

Must know Southwest's appropriate rules, procedures, and policies
