What You'll Do

You are a passionate and experienced software engineer with over 10 years of professional experience, specializing in full stack development with a strong focus on frontend development. You are proactive and capable of quickly introducing new pragmatic designs while providing strong leadership on technical direction. You understand that good design and readable code are more important than following the latest trends. You thrive in a remote role supporting a hybrid workforce and are committed to a 40-hour workweek. You are eager to grow your career while connecting with a fantastic mission.

Our Stack:

  • Programming Languages: Javascript (Typescript / Nodejs / React / Remix, MaterialUI), Python (FastAPI)
  • Databases: Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch
  • Cloud Services: AWS (ECS, RDS, SQS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and more)
  • Authentication: OAuth, Auth0
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform

Key Responsibilities:

Product Development

  • Help design, develop, deploy, and test new frontend and backend products and features as part of the Portals Team.
  • Take on full product roadmap items and deliver high-quality results on time.

Technical Direction

  • Provide early pragmatic designs that drive the technical direction of the product and features developed.
  • Work with Product Management to understand the feasibility of requirements and provide technical feedback.

Team Leadership

  • Coach and mentor junior team members.
  • Provide strong leadership and make decisions that drive product development forward with the team.

Collaboration and Improvement

  • Participate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adopt existing team practices and recommend improvements as needed.

Skills & Experience:

Professional Experience

  • At least 10 years of professional experience delivering high-quality production software.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading teams from inception designs to production delivery.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong working knowledge and 5 years of experience with frontend development.
  • Expert understanding of web, front-end, and server concepts.
  • Experience using component libraries and building REST APIs.
  • Strong working knowledge of security and auth best practices.

Technologies

  • Experience with Python and relational databases.
  • Experience with an MVC web framework.
  • Proficient in using AWS and a version control system (we use Git).

Performance Indicators:

  • Successful design, development, deployment, and testing of new frontend and backend products and features.
  • Timely delivery of high-quality results on full product roadmap items.
  • Effective technical feedback and feasibility assessments provided to Product Management.
  • Positive impact on the team through coaching, mentoring, and strong leadership.
  • Adoption and improvement of team practices to enhance productivity and quality.
