General Description:
The Director has the overall responsibility of the physical and fiscal management of Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center. This includes the day-to-day coordination of the facility. This position has primary oversight of all Concert / Special Events in the Arena while providing support / guidance for all Athletics Events.

Individual will assist in aligning all external communication, customer service support, and brand guidelines as outlined in the Tennessee Athletics Strategic Plan and subsequently.

Key components of the position will also include (but are not limited to): Fiscal Management (daily / event); Competence with necessary event & facility technological components; formulation and management of Special Events Premium Policy Manuals & Other Communications materials / distribution; Tactful scheduling experience and balance (Athletics / Concert & Special Events); Daily & Pre and Post Special Event planning and evaluations; Budget and data management; Other duties as assigned (and as needed) to support Event Operations / Special Events per Senior Associate AD/Event Management and applicable Athletics department leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Day-to-day management of the arena. This includes (but is not limited to): the organization, communication, and collaboration required of (and with) all applicable full and part time staffs, as well as all campus and external stakeholders required to support all athletics & Arena (concert and special) events.
This will include required collaboration with all Athletics Internal / External leadership and department members, as necessary, including the Sport Programs / leadership that compete within Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center (Women's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Basketball).
Individual will assist in aligning all external communication, customer service support, and brand guidelines as outlined in the Tennessee Athletics Strategic Plan and subsequently (daily and event).
Fiscal management of the overall Arena budget to include & consider (but not limited to):
- Incorporation of daily & event campus partner expenses and operations within budget / forecasting (i.e. facilities services, parking services, etc).
- Coordination of / contract management of all concert and special events in Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.
Involvement with all technological components of the Arena and guest experience including but not limited to: ticketing and parking components required to support events, including required trainings, briefings and cross-checks of the outside agencies and organizations that utilize and support those systems.
- Additionally: magnetometers (daily / event security); facility / campus door scheduling software; Momentus / calendar management software
Scheduling (including all considerations) and subsequent communication lead regarding the entire arena calendar:
- Arena / Special Events Calendar Manager oversight (distributor and communicator).
- Sport program evaluations, collaborations, and forecasting (Volleyball, Men's and Women's Basketball)
- City of Knoxville (Visit Knoxville) collaborator re: City / Arena Special Event availability and scheduling.
Support and Management
- Formulation of Athletics / Arena & Special Event Policy Manuals and other communications materials / distribution
- Athletics Arena & Special Event Pre & Post special event planning and evaluations
- Budget / Data management + payroll oversight as designated for Arena / Special events.
- Equipment & supply awareness / management for Arena
- Knowledge of SEC/NCAA guidelines as it pertains to the events being conducted within.
- Other duties as assigned (and as needed) to support Arena Management / Special Events per Senior Associate AD/Event Management and / or as designated.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree is required.

Master's Degree in sports management, business, or educational administration is preferred.

Experience:

1-2 years as (facility) director (or lead) of a Multi-Purpose Special Events Arena (6,000+ capacity) is required.

Collegiate athletics event and facility management oversight (experience) is preferred. Guest services oversight (experience) is preferred. Collegiate Women's Volleyball and Collegiate Men's & Women's Basketball event / facility oversight (experience) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Basic accounting and financial skills including University IRIS system is required.
  • Knowledge of event management components is required.
  • Ability to manage diverse personnel for individual events is required.
  • Ability to multi-task is required. Behaviors:
