How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX Aids to Navigation is a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds who all play a crucial role in the organization. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and providing financial analysis and reporting. Under direction of the Accounting Manager, and in accordance with corporate policies and procedures a successful Senior Accountant will have a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, the ability to interpret financial data effectively, and the capacity to communicate financial information to various stakeholders within the organization.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and other accounting transactions.
  • Perform financial analysis, including variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and trend analysis.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring proper documentation and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger including but not limited to, chart of accounts setup, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to senior management.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial planning and decision-making processes.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and procedures to streamline workflows, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested financial information and documentation.
  • Participate in the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and software.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience in public and/or manufacturing accounting; some public accounting experience preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP ERP is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley / internal controls.
  • High level of integrity and ethics, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.

Travel & Work Environment

  • Office Environment (+ manufacturing facility)
    • On-site during onboarding and training with the availability to transition to a 3-day hybrid work schedule after initial onboarding and training.
