The Clinic Director/NM works in close collaboration with Renal and Nephrology Section Chief and other members of the health care team to aid in the development of care coordination, ensure access, and timely high-quality care.


Major Duties include but are not limited to:
Adheres to all VA Dialysis Center policies; which include:

dialysis prescription, dialysis administered medications, recommended immunization procedures for ESRD patients and staff, frequency of physician visits, transplantation, consultation with renal dietician and social worker, etc.

Supervises Dialysis Staff Team members including RNs, Dialysis Techs, and MSA staff in the general operations and care provision of Dialysis Center patients in both implementation and ongoing care needs of high-risk End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Hemodialysis and Peritoneal patient population.

Supervises therapies provided, including but not limited to chronic and acute hemodialysis, ICU/ED treatments, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and home dialysis therapies (home peritoneal and home hemodialysis if implemented).

Ensures emergency management systems are in place.

Collaborates with Interdisciplinary team including nephrologist, Renal NP, dietician, vascular/surgery coordinator, Interventional radiology team, Social Worker, Peritoneal Dialysis RN coordinator, Specialty Care Manager and Renal Clinic RN care manager in the coordination of pre-dialysis education and plan of care for the CKD patient, including dialysis options education, vascular access placement, peritoneal dialysis education, and dialysis implementation.

Determines work goals to be accomplished by subordinates by setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work throughout Dialysis/Nephrology Department.

Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.

Evaluating the performance of subordinates.
Making recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates.
Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate

Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training (VA Handbook 5007, Part III, Chapter 8).

Facilitates a high functioning team of Administrative and Technical Support staff including MSA and clinical personnel who will systematically review processes regarding clinic operations, and scheduling of patients according to VA scheduling Directives, and MVAHCS processes.

Facilitates professional development of clinically competent staff through training and education in care coordination, patient advocacy, therapeutic engagement, ethical conduct, and patient self-determination.

Strives to ensure that dialysis care meets or exceeds pertinent performance measures.

Monitors performance and ensures clinical staff have the appropriate tools and resources to meet pertinent performance measures in collaboration with the Clinic Physician Leadership.

Uses data for decision making including and not limited to National Dashboards, NHSN data base, QAPI data.
Evaluates and identifies the operational needs of the clinics Dialysis Center on a daily basis. Facilitates the procurement of essential equipment and supplies in collaboration with Physician Clinic Leadership. Dialysis Techs and Nursing Staff.
Fosters a climate of dialysis efficiency and continuous improvement in collaboration with Physician and Nursing Leadership.

Monitors the quality of workload productivity and assists with implementation and improvement of documentation modalities such as:

Cyberren, CPRS and data collection and entries.
