We are looking for someone to oversee our most valuable asset—our people. Our HR Manager will be the go-to person for all things “human resources” in the firm. You’ll work closely with the Partners and the Management Committee of the Firm to help ensure that we’re doing all we can to help Hutchison be a workplace in which our employees thrive, grow, advance—and stay. Particular areas focus for this position are attorney and staff recruitment and retention, associate development, and team cohesion and connection.
Day-to-day HR responsibilities include:
- Leading the firm's staffing, recruiting and retention strategy.
- Overseeing the performance management and compensation processes for attorneys and staff
- Supporting current and future Firm needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of our team, including team events
- Working with our outsourced service provider to administer all aspects of firm payroll and benefits, including our 401(k) plans
- Overseeing policy development, employee handbook updates, and distribution of these items to employees on an as-needed basis
- Serving as an employee advocate and point of contact for human resources matters, practice development goals, and concerns
- Working closely with the Office Manager and Director of Finance on back-office matters and leading firm initiatives
- Developing innovative programs to enhance staff and attorney relations
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Assess training needs and oversee training programs for all employees.
- Communicating with partners and management regarding HR issues and recommendations, including attending weekly management committee meetings
Desired Skills and Training:
- Common technology and software skills (Microsoft including word, excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, electronic signatures, calendaring via outlook, setting up Zoom/Teams meetings, etc.)
- Supervisory HR experience is required (HR director, manager, or similar); law firm or professional services experience is a plus
- Experience with payroll processing, knowledge of applicable rules and regulations, experience using a PEO is a plus
- PHR or SHRM-CP preferred
- People oriented with excellent communication skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback
- Forward-thinking problem-solver with a “people first” attitude
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent active listening skills
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
Position Details:
- Salary is variable based on experience.
- Work environment: Given that you’ll be the point of contact for our people on all things “HR”, this is a (mostly) in-office position. We’ll need you to be in person at the Raleigh office four days a week.
