Position Overview:

Scout Sport Floors is seeking a Business Development Manager based in its Birmingham, AL office to lead its sales and marketing functions. The position requires strong initiative, technical abilities, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the following criteria:



Responsibilities and Essential Duties (other duties may be assigned):

  • Manage all aspects of sales and marketing functions and work with Management and Field Operations to ensure safe, effective, and timely execution of proposals and projects, including direct communication with clients and team members
  • Manage and improve relationships with existing clients; develop relationships with new clients, architects, contractors, and others for potential business development
  • Develop and provide input on growth strategy
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs
  • Attend industry events to drive sales opportunities and increase firm recognition
  • Follow industry trends locally and nationally
  • Develop in-depth industry knowledge of products, services, vendors, and suppliers
  • Identify additional methods to create opportunities with existing customers
  • Assist with developing proposals
  • Must be skilled at needs assessments, developing pursuit plans, presenting solutions, coordinating proposal opportunities, and assisting in the negotiation and closing of opportunities
  • Improve on and develop new sales processes and effectively utilize CRM tools
  • Assist with marketing and social media efforts in order to drive lead generation and company profile
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and sales calls
  • Visit jobsites to gain understanding of estimate accuracy, means & methods, project workflows, and manpower requirements
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with colleagues
  • Demonstrate superior customer service


Qualifications/Experience/Skills needed for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Building Science, Construction Management, or related field or relevant work experience in similar role preferred
  • At least 3-5 years of business development experience preferred; Prior experience in flooring trades a plus, but not required
  • Some travel, primarily throughout the Southeastern US, may be required
  • Ability to connect and interact with a wide range of personality types
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High attention to quality and detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and make quick sound decisions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and persuade others
  • High level of flexibility in day-to-day job functions
