Wilmington, United States End Community Violence Now Full time

Help shape how Delaware addresses community gun violence

*** Cover letter required. Read full job description for instructions. ***

Organization Summary: End Community Violence Now (ECVN) is a newly established 501(c)(3) nonprofit and public-private partnership that operates like a statewide community-based Office of Violence Prevention, working towards community violence reduction. Its mission is to grow a unified gun violence reduction ecosystem that breaks the cycle of violence and fosters safe communities in Delaware. In support of that mission, ECVN will coordinate investments, programs, initiatives, and actions, and align stakeholders with shared accountability of Delaware’s community violence reduction ecosystem, seeking to ensure that community violence intervention (CVI) action across the state is organized, synchronized, and sustainably funded for the long-term.

End Community Violence Now will also work closely with advocacy groups who work to prevent gun violence on the national level, influence policy in Delaware and nationwide, and inform Delawareans about the best practices in the intervention and prevention of community gun violence.

ECVN has established a 13-person board with representation from state government, the health sector, philanthropy, school districts, community members, and advocates. This is a newly launched, inaugural effort informed by several years of preparatory work, buy-in, and insight from the public and private sectors. The organization will shape the way Delaware addresses community gun violence across the state, and the Executive Director will have a major role in developing and implementing Delaware’s strategy.

Position Summary: The Executive Director will implement the strategic priorities established by the Board of Directors, as well as refine those priorities based on their assessment, research, and community engagement. As End Community Violence Now launches formally, the Executive Director will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising, grantmaking, and staffing strategies. The Executive Director will also be responsible for leading the organization’s operations and programming, including marketing and communications.

Primary Role Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies in support of ECVN’s operations and grantmaking.

Strategic planning

  • Develop and execute the statewide community gun violence reduction strategy.
  • Develop and execute ECVN’s organizational strategy in support of the strategy above.
  • Lead the evaluation of ECVN and the broader statewide ecosystem in their progress toward achieving goals set forth in their respective strategies.

Management and operations

  • Manage the organization’s operations and programs.
  • Implement a staffing strategy, including staffing programmatic areas of work; establish staff performance metrics and conduct performance reviews.
  • Oversee the organization’s marketing and communications.

Grantmaking and evaluation

  • Establish and oversee the administration of ECVN’s grantmaking to community violence reduction programs.
  • Lead the evaluation of grantees.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of management or administrative experience in a government or public agency or a non-profit agency involving leadership, facilitation, and project management in the area of violence prevention or related community outreach/improvement programs.
  • At least two (2) years of experience managing a team.
  • Experience with the grant application and management process.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust, credibility, and relationships in the Delaware community.
  • A genuine passion for and commitment to social justice and reducing community gun violence.
  • Experience working directly with communities.
  • Digital and software proficiency (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of management or administrative experience in a government or public agency or a non-profit agency involving leadership, facilitation, and project management in the area of violence prevention or related community outreach/improvement programs.
  • A proven track record of successful fundraising.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working in the community gun violence field.
  • Experience in relationship building and working with a Board of Directors and key stakeholders (legislators, advocacy groups, etc.).
  • Knowledge of and relationships within Delaware.
  • Experience working with communities of color.
  • Experience using social media platforms.

How to Apply

To apply, send an email with your resume and cover letter (one page or less) to info@ecvndelaware.org with the subject line “ECVN Executive Director Position”. Applications will be accepted through June 30th.

We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. If you are interested in applying but do not meet every qualification, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role, and still apply.
