JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) is responsible for the strategic and tactical approach to marketing CIC, its programs and services to the partners, stakeholders, and the community. The goal of our marketing is to communicate our impact and the value of our programs to enhance public visibility, trust, recognition and support. The DMC is responsible for developing key strategies and managing the execution of marketing for CIC with support from staff. Priorities will include continuing and further developing the basic strategic marketing and development approach/work plan we have.


Strategic Planning & Execution

• Generate an annual calendar for marketing including a publication calendar and approach for daily social media posts to include some content from all departments and programs.

• Develop a multi-year timeline for marketing & development approach including investments that may be needed in infrastructure and tools.

• Elevate program staff’s knowledge and investment in marketing and communications work (i.e. teach staff what specific elements make a good social media or an ongoing brand build campaign)

• Create resonate messaging and calls for action and/or work with program staff to do so including honing value propositions for different stakeholder groups.

• In conjunction with the needs of other departments and programs, lead an initiative to implement a CRM for communications and outreach. 

• In support of ED’s fundraising efforts, identify and engage potential donors and other targeted audiences.

o Work with ED to develop marketing solutions that drive program-related fundraising opportunities with (in order of priority):

 Foundations

 Strategic Corporate Partners

 Individual Donors

o Initiate new ways to generate revenue by building and expanding our network of donors through marketing and communications strategies (development is the responsibility of the ED and this position will not be asked to may requests of donor except as they may wish to or as might be relevant to the department i.e. in-kind donations).

o Work with ED to create marketing and communications strategies for fundraising campaigns as needed.

o Assist in generating year-round publicity and media attraction in support of our marketing strategies throughout the year.

o Communicate major organizational news to relevant audiences

o Work with ED to develop and monitor fundraising outreach and campaigns, including grant proposals and reporting


Media Relations

• Provide media (newspapers, cable TV, radio, web sites, etc.) with notices of upcoming productions, newsworthy events, and announcements.

• May serve as the CIC’s spokesperson with coordination with the ED.

• Maintain an updated media list that allows access to various audiences to be reached and tracks related placements/analytics. 

• Schedule appearances with appropriate venues to promote the CIC’s mission. Likewise, work with print media to achieve the same.

• Constantly develop and maintain long-term working relationships with the media to promote the CIC’s mission and vision.

• Facilitate and/or write and distribute press releases.


Marketing Materials

• Manage creative services to take projects from concept to final product including timeline, budget, production schedule, content development, approvals, etc.

• Assist with content creation and act as final editor for all CIC brand related materials, including brochures, emails, and CIC websites.

• Help ensure consistent style for and quality control of marketing efforts and materials as well as develop consistent messaging.

• Create talking points and messaging that can be used for partnership development, fundraising needs, and periodic “impact” reports on organizational/program successes and impact/outcomes.

• Assist Program Directors with the creation of an editorial/publishing calendar (may be based off or roll up to Annual Editorial Calendar).


Advertising

• Leverage advertising budget to extend CIC’s reach to targeted audiences.

• Manage third-party vendors and contractors in designing advertising materials and the placement of media buys (when applicable).

• Lead Event Planning efforts, Promotions and Sponsorships (as applicable in accordance with strategic marketing plans). Currently, CIC has a very limited number of events that are generally small.

o Coordinate with staff and vendors in planning and executing events within budget.


Administrative Functions

• Perform duties in accordance with the CICs policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings and conferences, creating program and project budgets, and completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports.

Education/Other Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, PR, or related field from an accredited university or college. Experience may substitute, but it must be demonstrable and significant.

• Must be a resident of Pima County


Required Experience

• 3 years of experience in marketing, communication or public relations.

• Demonstrated excellent written/verbal communication skills, including clear, concise, and accurate written documents, grammar, spelling, and election/organization of appropriate presentation method/vehicle. 

• Experience developing and managing various social media platforms and ability to stay current in this area.

• Ability to utilize CRM database


Desired Experience

• Adobe Creative Cloud – Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, etc.

• Knowledge of Canva 

• Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, time management, research, information management, and higher-level organizational skills. 

• Demonstrated skills using Windows-based software, including Internet browsers, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and graphics software, to generate meaningful and comprehensive documents, materials and presentations.

• Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities. 

• Proven track record of program/organizational development.


Licenses/Certification:

• Valid drivers’ license along with good driving record and auto insurance required. Also must have access to own vehicle for attending off-site meetings throughout the work day as needed.

Working conditions

• This position allows for a hybrid schedule of in-office and at-home work based upon organizational needs and the current office policy. Current hybrid work environment includes working in CIC’s administrative offices and remotely (from a secured internet connection/network). Will be required to participate virtual and in-person meetings and will be expected to come to the office at least 3 times per week. Working conditions are subject to change at any time as public health concerns/circumstances change and needs evolve, but CIC is committed to providing some ongoing flexibility.

• Willing to travel as needed via car through Arizona but mostly in Pima County (roughly 15%).

• Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary for outreach, marketing, events, and meetings with stakeholders.

• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs in order to carry materials and supplies as needed.
