Job Summary

The New York Foundling is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vocational Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Supportive Housing Program, you will play a vital role in empowering young adults to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide educational and employment placement support to 50 young adults participating in our Scattered Site Supportive Housing Program in Brooklyn.
  • Collaborate with case planning staff, clinical staff, and participants to develop and implement individualized service plans.
  • Provide formalized instruction in Independent Living Skills, including resource information and assistance in locating stable housing.
  • Offer vocational training and employment coaching to eligible participants, either directly or through referral to structured programs.
  • Assist participants in selecting and admitting into educational settings and maintaining employment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers and stakeholders to provide job opportunities for participants.
  • Research and develop information on resource programs and services related to Independent Living, including financial literacy curriculum.
  • Document all required service-related contacts with participants and maintain attendance records and participation reports.
  • Participate in action plan meetings, clinical meetings, and coaching supervision sessions to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Attend trainings and conferences for professional growth and development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with youth, preferably in the NYC child welfare system.
  • Familiarity with employment and educational coaching, as well as experience working with youth with mental health and substance use issues.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with staff, participants, and employers/stakeholders.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings, with quarterly after-hour coverage required.
