Managing Director of Fund Development

This is a senior level position, responsible for the development of a strategic, comprehensive and integrated fund development program for REMSA Health. This position will develop strategies to implement, grow and manage a comprehensive development program. Within this general framework, working in close coordination with the REMSA Health leadership team and board of directors, this position is accountable for the following functions:

  • Developing the strategic fund development program for REMSA Health and the annual development plan by working with organizational leaders to identify and validate priorities.
  • Determining the most effective components of this plan that may include, annual giving programs, grant-writing, planned giving, capital campaigns, fundraising events, donor acknowledgement/stewardship, donor prospect identification/cultivation, corporate philanthropy and partnerships, etc.
  • Creating, managing and ultimately leveraging a donor database.
  • Working with the leadership team and board of directors to develop a relevant, strategic, and compelling case for giving for REMSA Health’s overarching fund development.
  • Developing and managing an integrated, strategic approach to requesting funding from corporations, individuals, foundations or other entities in a way that maximizes funding.
  • In coordination with other members of the company, overseeing the targeting and preparation of grants from inception to completion.
  • Preparing and submitting corporate, foundation and individual funding proposals with assistance from other members of REMSA Health.
  • Creating and ensuring the proper and effective implementation of an appropriate acknowledgement/stewardship program, which enhances donor satisfaction and supports REMSA Health’s brand and reputation standards.
  • Stewarding post-funding donor relationships, ensuring that there is a cohesive approach for donors to receive regular, timely informative, and on-brand communications and contacts regarding the achievement enabled by their giving.
  • Maintaining continued relationships with donors through planned communication.
  • Ensuring that donor-required reporting, communication and record keeping is executed on a timely basis in conformance with donor requirements. 
  • Identifying and initiating contacts as appropriate with donor prospects, in conjunction with the President/CEO, senior leaders, clinical leaders, board members and other community volunteers
  • Assisting the President/CEO, et al. in cultivation of prospects (corporate, individual, family trusts, foundations, etc.) and stewardship of REMSA Health donors.
  • Developing, managing and marketing a planned giving program to appropriate prospects, at such time as deemed appropriate within the overall fund development program.
  • Supporting the REMSA Health team with fundraising activities and special events as needed.
  • Working with REMSA Health staff and its public relations/marketing agency to identify opportunities to communicate the benefits of giving to the organization, to make the most of REMSA Health’s status as a 501(c) 3, and to share success stories made possible through donor generosity.
  • Ensuring that the “Support REMSA Health” section of the website has strategic, up to date content and requests for donations, and is functioning properly.
  • Working with REMSA Health staff and its public relations/marketing agency to develop needed fund development marketing tools and communication pieces, including, but not limited to printed collateral, electronic and digital communications, direct mail, acknowledgement tools, etc.
  • Indirectly overseeing support staff activity and other REMSA Health staff who perform development related functions.
  • Completing other duties as required for the success of the fund development program and REMSA Health.


Qualifications/ Experience Requirements

·        Six (6) plus years of progressive fundraising, and fund development management experience required.

·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in marketing, communications, business or related field required.

·        Demonstrated history of developing and managing successful fund development programs.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

·        Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills.

·        Must be proficient with computers and software that includes Microsoft and Google Workspace programs, search platforms, donor database management software, and social media such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

·        Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid Nevada driver’s license.

·        Existing relationships with donors and prospective donors in the region served by REMSA Health, with emphasis on greater Reno-Tahoe/Washoe County and rural areas served by Care Flight is highly preferred.

·        Healthcare experience or knowledge of the healthcare industry preferred.
