Morris Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our team. The Senior Project Engineer is accountable to the Project Manager in all matters concerning project operations.
The Senior Project Engineer supports the project team with technical aspects of the job administration at the direction of the Project Manager and/or Superintendent. It is the Engineer’s responsibility to administer project control as assigned.
The Senior Project Engineer will work closely with the Project Manger to ensure all projects stay on schedule and on budget. Ensure all documentation between the Subcontractors and Project Administration is collected and processed in a timely manner. Oversee and support the Project Manager in keeping all project logs up to date. Ensure that submittals are obtained, reviewed, and approved, and that materials and equipment are released for fabrication in time for delivery as required at jobsite. Support the Project Manager in overseeing new project bids (follow up, collecting bids, establishing relationships with estimators, etc.) Support the Project Manager in new project start up documentation and setting up standard files, etc. Facilitate the RFI process as directed by the Project Manager and Superintendent. Assist Project Manager and Superintendent in obtaining and submitting As-Built drawings, guarantees, warranties, and required operating instructions. Support Project Manager in obtaining all closeout documentation from the subcontractors in a timely manner as per the Project Specifications. Staying in communication with all Project Staff and supporting as needed.
Duties include but not limited to:
- From initial bid through the final payment, ensure that the project costs are properly controlled and forecasted. This includes the maintenance of buyout logs, change order logs and cost reports, which are to be scrupulously monitored and kept up to date.
- Establish and maintain professional and effective relations with the Owner and Architect, meeting with them on a regular basis to review all aspects of the project. Keep them informed of the budget status and be available for consultation and help as required.
- Assure that applications for payment are promptly and properly submitted, payments promptly received, and funds properly dispersed. This includes the timely review, approval, and processing of subcontractor and vendor payment applications and payments.
- Maintain appropriate subcontractor insurance.
- Provide notices as required by contract and as necessary to document substandard performance by subcontractors.
- Keep management informed on all appropriate matters as to the progress of the project, financial status, Owner/ Architect relations, personnel evaluations, etc.
- Remember at all times that Morris Construction is a service business and the customers’ needs are of primary importance.
- Coordinate and direct the estimating, purchasing, engineering, accounting, and construction functions as they relate to the project.
- Responsible for the development of personnel assigned to the project(s) by monitoring performance, reviewing evaluations, varying assignments, counseling individuals as to future career paths, and promoting a positive project morale.
- Be knowledgeable of all Company policies in regard to insurance, safety, labor relations, equal opportunity employment, taxes, and ensure that they are followed.
- Responsible for follow up on project after completion including completion punch-lists, investigation of problems during the guarantee period, and other items periodically required to service the Owner.
- Recognize, report and solve problems in a creative, positive and constructive way and make recommendations for improvements in systems, procedures and policies.
Skills & Experience:
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook a Must (Microsoft Project preferred)
- Medical construction experience a plus
- Adobe and/or Blue beam preferred
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Construction Project Engineer
- Knowledge of construction documents (RFI’s, Submittals, Contracts, etc.)
- Ability to read Construction Drawings
- Strong Communication skills and ability to establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors
- Strong computer skills
- Able to support as well as delegate responsibility as needed
- Ability to work well under pressure and bounce back and forth between projects with ease
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
- Detail oriented and dependable.
