My client is an American, employee-owned launch company based in Brunswick, Maine. They are a start-up specializing in developing cutting edge space propulsion technologies for the smallsat & cubesat markets.


They have been going from strength to strength and have significant backing from government customers alongside private investors.


Job Summary:


My client is seeking a CNC Machinist / Aerospace Technician with skills in manufacturing and fabrication to work with their engineers on their state-of-the-art launch vehicle. This role demands a highly skilled, innovative, and proactive person who can oversee their assembly facility, manage efforts, and ensure project timelines, safety requirements and specifications are met with precision.


Responsibilities


  • Lead and manage the assembly and fabrication of flight vehicles and related components
  • Oversee static engine testing, vehicle launch operations, and telemetry/avionics integration
  • Implement and refine manufacturing protocols to enhance efficiency and safety
  • Supervise and train team members in advanced assembly techniques and the use of specialized machinery
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Drive project completion by coordinating with engineering teams to refine designs and solve complex technical challenges
  • Develop and enforce a rigorous maintenance schedule for all manufacturing equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards related to safety and quality


Position Requirements


  • Above all else, an utmost respect for safety, and the ability to achieve goals without ever compromising on safety
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Driver’s license and able to travel to various points in Maine during regular test and launch operations
  • Comfortable outdoors, including working in forests, on a boat, or in a workshop
  • Willing to work on tall ladders, in confined spaces, with exposure to extreme environments and in the presence of dangerous materials
  • A discipline in documentation, particularly as it relates to process and quality control


Skills and Qualifications:


Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or GED


Required Technical Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
  • In-depth knowledge of complex assembly operations and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Must be a lawful U.S. Person (per ITAR and 8.U.S.C.1324b(a)(3))
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering design data include drawings, CAD models, and regulatory specifications such as ASME Y15.4 & AWS D1.1
  • Expertise in at least one of the following manufacturing processes: welding, CNC machining, and/or composites layup.


Ideal Skills / Experience:

  • Expert at GD&T
  • Experienced with Metal and Polymer 3D printing,
  • Have participated in rocket hardware manufacturing and assembly, particularly for liquid or hybrid systems
