Role Overview:


The Vice President of Finance and Accounting plans and oversees all aspects of the organization's financial processes and establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives.

Develops and administers financial organization policies and develops long-range goals and objectives.

Provides leadership and oversees key operational and financial processes and decisions for the finance team to improve efficiency and performance.

The Vice President of Finance and Accounting is under the general direction and supervision of the President & CEO.

Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities:


Oversees all operations concerning financial matters, including preparation of monthly financial statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliation of accounts, and auditing.

Trains and supervises division team members; develops and initiates systems, operating policies, the financial accounting manual, and procedures for transacting financial matters by Board of Trustees policy.

Ensures that the financial system is accurate and efficient by professional accounting practices, government regulations, national Goodwill standards, and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) requirements.

Develops and implements the division goals, projects, policies, procedures, methods, and controls; directs general accounting activities, including maintenance of general ledgers, analysis of financial statements, and review of payroll records.

Prepares monthly and close-out reports as required by California and Federal regulations, profit-loss statements, annual corporate tax and not–for–profit

returns/statements,

and special financial reports, studies, and analyses.

Develops and maintains the internal audit control system and develops and administers the Goodwill cash management and capital expenditure program.

Provides data, reports, and other information to assist and support the division leaders and President/CEO in preparing the annual budget and monthly reports utilized in the financial management of all divisions.

Forecasts revenues, expenditures, year-end balances, cash positions, and cash flows; plans, designs, implements, and modifies the data processing system; prepares and revises the fiscal operations procedure manual.

Coordinates with other operating divisions concerning short- and long-range fiscal needs, plans, and reporting formats; responds to requests for information; supervises daily accounting operations, especially the verifying and signing payroll, cash disbursements, and the payable register.

Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates division team members and demonstrates a commitment to empowering other Directors in the financial management of their divisions.

Partners with contract finance agencies to carry out the supplemental needs of finance functions.

Vice President of Finance and Accounting Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with an Accounting concentration from an accredited college or university.
Ten (10)+ years' progressively responsible experience in accounting.
Eight (8) years of experience in accounting leadership.
Experience in a Non-Profit environment is a plus.
Experience in a multi-unit/ multi-location business.

Knowledge
The Vice President of Finance and Accounting shall possess knowledge of:
The principles, practices, and methods of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing.
The principles and practices of financial administration, including budgeting and reporting.
Financial office practices, procedures, methods, and systems.
The current principles and practices in operating procedures and data processing.
Data processing is used to maintain accounting records and financial administration.
Budget preparation, program analysis, and revenue/expense forecasting.
The organization, administration, budget, and management principles and practices.
The reporting requirements of government, funders, and various other regulators.

Skill
The Vice President of Finance and Accounting shall be able to possess the following skill set and abilities:
Mid-level experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and experience using formulas and pivot tables.
Experience presenting to boards and committees.
Planning, coordinating, and directing a complex financial operation with multiple lines of business.
Developing, revising, and installing accounting systems and procedures.
Interpreting and applying appropriate laws and regulations.
Preparing varied financial statements, reports, and analysis.
Communicating clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
Selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
Demonstrating leadership competencies in building a high-value organization.

Licenses

The Vice President of Finance and Accounting must possess a valid California motor vehicle operator's license and be willing to use their personal vehicle during employment.


Desirable Qualifications:
The Vice President of Finance and Accounting should possess a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) Certificate, preferred.
