The Opportunity :

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Student Health Services (SHS) is seeking qualified candidates for a Laboratory Technician I position. The Laboratory Technician I will work under the supervision of the Nursing Manager. This position will provide laboratory support to establish, implement, and monitor laboratory policies and procedures. The Laboratory Technician I will ensure lab operations are efficient and effective.

This is a time-limited funded position. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:

Ensure quality control in maintaining specimen integrity by using an aseptic technique, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures. Ensure appropriate sampling and record keeping. Verify results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability. Practice infection control and safety practices ensuring that safe waste generation practices are followed. Prepare, clean, and sterilize materials and ensure all equipment functions properly, including glassware, instruments, solutions, and reagents. Assist in coordinating daily laboratory operations; including but not limited to greeting patients, instructing them on proper specimen collection methods; labeling specimens, processing patient laboratory orders for reference laboratories; inputting specimen data into the computer; and processing blood and urine in the centrifuge. Prepare and analyze CLIA waived & other routine tests offered w/in a clinical Lab to ensure the highest quality in the results, within the established time frame, and following established policies and procedures. Analyze labs to ensure the highest quality in results, within the established manufacturer's time frame, and according to established aseptic techniques. Ensure the proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies. Report results following clinical protocols, alerting physicians and/or nurses immediately about abnormal results. Perform Provider Performed Microscopy (PPM) laboratory procedures according to all (PPM) lab policies and procedures; including compliance with the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing process. Report results following clinical protocols, alerting physicians and/or nurses immediately about abnormal results. Comply with all SHS-established policies/procedures, AAAHC standards, and (OSHA) regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control. Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies as needed. Ensure proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies. Maintain confidentiality of patient records, hospital, and departmental matters at all times. Additional duties include but are not limited to performing other related duties as assigned; attending staff meetings as required; and timely completion of all required university education AHSC, and SHS training.

Minimum Qualifications :

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat

Preferred Qualifications :

Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with Electronic Health Record systems. Preference may be given to candidates with ambulatory care experience. Preference may be given to candidates with laboratory experience.

Health Assessment Required:

The UCF policy requires the completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
